Just over 2 years ago my grandpa passed away, and I never had a chance to woodwork with him. He was a fantastic woodworker! My Dad just brought his workbench back from Saskatchewan for me, and now I am honoured to get to spend some time with him every time I'm out in the shop, which is one of the greatest gifts.

Cleaned up and testing my new to me Stanley No.5! It may be 110-120 years old, but it cuts like butter and leaves a silky smooth surface behind.

I rescued this from a barn back in Carleton Place where it had been laying in a heap for 20+ years. Lots of twists and humps, lots of character, lots of beautiful wood!

I hit a FB Marketplace jackpot last night. I've been looking for an improvement in the jack plane department and saw this Stanley that looked extra old. Lo and behold it's a Type 11! (1910-1918 mfg range) looks like it was dropped and mended many years ago, but it will serve me just fine for my life I'd say! My first block plane came with it, but I would have paid the $50 just for the no.5!

In other news, this made me discover that my Saergent Her cules is actually a 5 1/2, so I've been carrying an extra pound around for years!
