Summary
The Commercial Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating H.E. CONSTRUCTION INC. heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy construction equipment may include Bulldozer, Backhoe, Excavator, Mini-Excavator, Roller and other pieces of equipment. He or she must always perform circle checks of equipment and clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures. Due to the hazards associated with operating heavy equipment this position places special prohibitions on working while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or prescribed medications and the use of handheld devices such as cellular phones, etc. Other duties involve dealing with clients and members of the public in a courteous, respectful manner. H.E. CONSTRUCTION INC. requires their employees to be versatile and operators will be required to fill roles of labourers occasionally.

Job Duties
• Check heavy equipment using approved circle check procedures before operating them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
• Operate hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other necessary mechanical components.
• Operate gasoline and diesel powered units.
• Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliance's.
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless service.
• Disable cellular phones and other sources of distraction at all times while operating heavy equipment.
• Diagnose / identify defects in heavy duty equipment.
• Accurate completion of work orders and time cards.
• Clean, lubricate and perform other minor maintenance work.
• Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
• Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and operation techniques.
• Maneuver trucks/heavy equipment, following signals from crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct.
• Report equipment defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the equipment.
• Check all documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
• Communicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers both verbally and in written form.
• Assist in loading and unloading of equipment.
• Ensure that material is properly protected from the outdoor elements if required.
• Ensure that jobsites are cleaned up and safely maintained.
• Provide feedback to supervision regarding any problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.
• Complete all necessary paperwork.
Requirements
• 5-10 years’ experience
• Heavy Equipment license is not required.
• Municipal experience preferred, drainage experience considered an asset.
• Experience with utilities and hydro.
• Health and Safety oriented
• Knowledge of operation of Bulldozer, Backhoe, Excavator, Mini-Excavator, Roller and other pieces of equipment.
• Knowledge of construction equipment safety.
• Ability to keep grade, attain final grade, and clean up skills required.
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.

Work Conditions
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.

• Travel to multiple sites (sometimes up to 2 hours away)
• Work in the elements – can be extreme hot or cold
