We asked Julien what eight and a half years in the trades has taught him. He didn’t talk about tools.

“It’s helped me become more of a team player. I run a baseball team Friday nights with half the guys I work with.”

Turns out the job site and the ball diamond run on the same rules. Everyone plays their role. Someone’s the coach, someone’s the journeyman. Same job, different word. And nobody wants to be the reason the whole team has a bad day.

Journeyman Julien gave us the play by play on what it takes to land ten rooftop units with nothing but a crane and a set of hand signals.

The crew talks to the crane operator with their hands, a system everyone picks up back in trade school. Boom up, boom down, boom left, boom right, called out in real time so the operator always knows exactly where the unit needs to go.

It’s the kind of day that doesn’t happen often, and Julian says that’s exactly what makes it fun. The whole job site pays attention when a crane rolls in. Even the neighbours notice, kids included.

Ten rooftop units, one crane, zero walkie talkies.

Our crew dropped units on this insurance building in Essex the old fashioned way: hand signals, straight from trade school to the roof. Boom up, boom down, boom right, boom left, one call at a time from journeyman Julien to the crane operator.

One unit had to land tight, no room to move the crane twice, and it came down perfect.

That’s a crane day for the Encore team.

Working in the trades has helped Nick become independent.

That’s what a year and a half in the trades builds. Not just a license. The kind of independence where you stop calling someone else to fix it and just fix it yourself.

Corner of Dougall and Cabana. New unit going up, old one coming down. Three connections; low voltage, high voltage, gas line, and no room for error on the roof.

Nick’s a year and a half in at Encore, first year license fresh in hand. Learning from guys who’ve done this for years. That’s the job.

Three connections to manage: low voltage, high voltage, gas line. Power off first, old unit off, new one set exactly where the old one sat. No gaps, no shortcuts. Has to fit perfectly or you’re looking at a leak down the road.

Nick’s on this one, a year and a half into his time with us and just back from school with his first year license. Learning from guys who’ve done this for years, that’s how it gets done right.

Yesterday was a hot one, but that didn’t stop the Encore team from getting together to celebrate all the accomplishments from the last year. We’ve completed some great projects from automotive dealerships to condominiums, but the progress that we’re most proud of is how our younger trades have grown in their roles.

Investing in the next generation of tradespeople has always been part of who we are. That’s why we’ve partnered with Scelta, building tools that help the people we work with every day succeed, adapt, and grow.

40+ years in Windsor-Essex has taught us one thing: the trades move forward because the people in them do. Proud to keep investing in that.

Cooper left accounting, took a chance on Encore, and never looked back.

His advice to apprentices? Show up on time, ask the right questions, and be the last one to sit down for lunch.

Right now he’s got four guys on site at the Wyoming job for Timberland Homes, running eight-inch cast iron storm drains through the ceiling.

We couldn’t be prouder of Cooper and the crew putting in this kind of work every day.

Eight-inch cast iron storm drains. Six guys. Four floors down, one to go.

Cooper and the crew have been on this commercial build in LaSalle for three months running drainage, venting, water lines, and roof drains from the ground up for Timberland Homes

Right now the focus is getting the roof tied in so the building can dry out and drywalling can start.

Heavy pipe. Tight timelines. The kind of work that doesn’t make the highlight reel until it’s done right.

Couldn’t be prouder of the whole crew showing up every day and getting it done. This is what Encore looks like on a job site.
