Mid-October is the perfect time to tidy the garden before winter settles in. ๐Ÿ‚

Fresh mulch gives beds a polished finish, while Hostas and grasses can be cut back for the season. Endless Summer Hydrangeas bring a final touch of colour before the garden rests.

Nothing makes us happier than hearing someone can enjoy their garden again. ๐Ÿ’›

Thank you, Josephine, for the kind words and for trusting our team with both the clean-up and the plan for what comes next.

A garden should feel like a place you actually want to spend time in, and weโ€™re so glad yours does again.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Little Schoolhouse. ๐Ÿ‚

Weโ€™re especially grateful for the wonderful clients, gardens, and communities we get to be part of throughout the year. Wishing you a long weekend filled with good food, good company, and a little time to enjoy the season.

If you have ever wanted the look of a tree with the blooms of a Hydrangea, this oneโ€™s for you. ๐ŸŒธ

Hydrangea Standards are trained to a single trunk, bringing those full blooms up to eye level, while Hydrangea Shrubs create that same beautiful seasonal colour closer to the ground.

From white summer blooms to soft pinks in fall, both bring plenty of interest to the garden throughout the season.

The details are where a garden earns its keep. ๐Ÿ” A Japanese Maple placed so it catches the afternoon light. Path lighting that makes the walk to the door feel welcoming after dark. A young Maple in the lawn that will be the shade tree this family sits under in ten years. None of it is flashy on its own.

Together it is the difference between a yard and a landscape. ๐Ÿ“ฉ [email protected]

Our team brings together horticultural knowledge, hands-on experience, curiosity and a genuine love of working outdoors. Some have been with Little Schoolhouse for years, while others are just beginning their careers in horticulture, but everyone brings something valuable to the work we do.

There is a lot of care behind every garden we plant, shape and maintain, and weโ€™re very lucky to have a team that enjoys the process as much as the finished result.

A classic home deserves a garden with manners. ๐Ÿก For this front yard we kept the palette calm and the lines clean: Hostas and Ferns for the shady side, Hydrangeas and Sedum for a bit of blush by the porch, dark mulch to make everything pop, and a single limestone boulder for a little weight.

The result reads as "always been here," which is the nicest thing anyone can say about a new garden. ๐Ÿ“ฉ [email protected]

Every garden starts with someone pointing at a patch of lawn and saying "picture this." ๐ŸŒฑ That is Danielle, owner of Little Schoolhouse, mid-vision.

Twenty-plus years of horticulture means she can look at your yard and see where the shade garden goes, which shrub will still look good in February, and what to plant so the bees have somewhere to be. The best part of the job is watching a homeowner start to see it too. ๐Ÿ“ฉ [email protected]

Thereโ€™s something about a garden by the water. ๐ŸŒŠ Cedars frame the property beautifully, while Ornamental grasses, Spirea, Catmint, and Day Lilys add layers of texture, movement and colour throughout. The result feels natural to the landscape and lets that waterfront view stay exactly where it belongs: front and centre.

Every garden has its own conditions, and understanding them is where good design begins. ๐ŸŒฟ

For this shaded space, Danielle selected Heuchera, Helleborus, Astilbe, Hydrangeas and Japanese Painted Fern, choosing plants that are naturally suited to lower light while still bringing softness, texture and seasonal interest to the garden.

The right plant in the right place makes all the difference!
