Huw the handyman I come from 3 generation of fine Welsh craftsmen ranging from carpenters, masons, wagon builders, coffin makers and roofers.

After completing my apprenticeship I joined my Father for twelve years working on repairing historic Welsh properties. If your home is your castle it would be my honor to serve you.

This one was a bit of a puzzler. How to “attach” a catio to a hinged window. The solution came from Amazon! This is a modular wire grid shelf, that I was able to turn into a cage that would still allow the window to function.
A solid platform underneath and some sticky Velcro pads help hold it in place.
As you can see from the second picture, it got the seal of approval from Nicky, Enya wasn’t feeling brave enough yet.

One of these things is not like the other! 🤣
On the left: good old IKEA. On the right: an unknown Amazon purchase.
Despite the visual differences, the real difference showed up in assembly time. The Amazon unit took about an hour and a half to put together, while the IKEA one took half that time.
It just goes to show why IKEA has cornered the flat-pack furniture market. Yes, they can be more expensive upfront—but when you factor in labour time, the savings speak for themselves.

I’m calling this one sticker shock!!

One of the things I’ve been doing over the quieter winter months has been getting back into furniture repair and refinishing.
This one was relatively simple, I removed the stickers and damaged varnish. I went with a painted frame work to bring it up to date and help the gorgeous two tone veneer stand out. Rather unusual combination of 3 drawers and a small cubby at the bottom.

My client ordered some self adhesive wrap for hers and now the cats have a “new” scratching post.
