Perfect for pool weather! Mixed flagstone surrounds this pool with a natural non-slip surface. We think the pattern of the stone adds interest and the organic shapes give it a unique look.

Deck or patio? When it comes to deciding, there are many factors. We compared a simple 12x12 cedar deck and an Owen Sound flagstone patio of the same size.

With current wood prices, materials on the deck could come to close to $2500.* This will last 10-15 years on average, though that can be extended with regular maintenance and board replacement.

The stone for the patio comes in at $1170. Maintenance is limited to occasional cleaning. You may need to re-level some stones are re-grout with the polymeric sand or fill but, overall, you can spend more of your summers enjoying the patio and less refinishing it! The stone itself, if properly installed, can last a lifetime.

Both deck and patio can be installed as do-it-yourself projects or by a professional installer. While it may be easier to set up a raised or tiered deck, it is possible to adjust the ground level for walkout patios and tiered yards with great effect.

*Deck prices are based on materials only (without stairs or railings) using inchcalculator.com. Prices do not include ground preparation or taxes.

Mariash Quarry was proud to supply stone for this memorial project. Check out the post by MALA for more about the meaning behind the Kapabayak Achaak Healing Forest.

"The Kapabayak Achaak Healing Forest is a living memorial to Indigenous children lost to or affected by the residential school system. Its roots are within the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Calls to Action and is part of a network of Healing Forests to be developed across Canada.

A diverse planning team of 12 members came together which facilitated numerous community consultation workshops in conjunction with ft3 Architecture Landscape Interior Design. The team consulted with various community members, educators, and in particular, Indigenous and Métis Elders who were affected by residential schools and/or other colonial programs. Through consultation, Phase 1 included the development of a conceptual plan by Métis landscape designer Shawn Finnigan. Phase 2 included the production of drawings and coordination with the City of Winnipeg. The consultation process is ongoing for the planning team as the goals of the project evolve through use of the space."
