So, what I consider a feel good story for Moffatt Electrical, certainly a win.

I was called on the weekend due to flickering lights and some other weird things happening within the house. Long story short, this was a case of a (damaged neutral) on the street coming from the utility company. This can be a BIG BIG problem and can cause a lot of damage. Fortunately there was no damage. It was caught in time, and the worst part was being without power for around 6 hours between when it started and Moffatt Electrical arriving and getting the utility company out. So thank you to Alectra Power for coming out on a Saturday and saving the day.

So if ever you see a lights flickering, maybe some things not working or acting strange, most of all larger appliances, such as the electric stove, make the call. In most cases, things are minor, but every now and again its a little more serious, but caught in time, it was without damage and without stressful cost.

Old wiring and k**b and tube wiring, the myths and the truth:

So basically as many of us have heard many times before, “k**b and tube and old wiring will burn your house down!”
This is NOT true. The fact is k**b and tube wiring is still safe and functional. Any wiring from any generation can be hazardous and unsafe if it is in a bad state for whatever the reason may be. K**b and tube is from the early 1900s to the 1940s, and in a lot of cases, in a lot of homes, it is still in good functional shape. With it being in good shape, it is not illegal and it is not hazardous, and not a fire hazard.
With that being said, if you think you have older wiring or k**b and tube wiring, you should absolutely have it inspected and tested by an electrical contractor.
Eventually the old wiring does need to be addressed, but that does not mean you need to jump into a complete rewire over right away. Work with your electrician, make a plan. This is something that can be done in stages and over time.

Electrical Home Inspections. Happy new year to everyone.

It is a new year and home sales are still happening every day.
If you are looking to have a home inspection done, remember, electrical inspection is NOT covered under home inspection. A legal electrical inspection is only done by Electrical contractors.
Hire your local or your go to electrician to do a electrical inspection with a full report, and advised fixes if they are needed.
