Swipe to see the transformation!
This was one of those times when my client wasn’t excited to call me. This is a trailer/tiny home that wasn’t constructed properly and specific details like the window flashing and siding installation created this massive moisture issue that if left unchecked was going to create a total loss for my clients.
Luckily, when they sent me their project video we were still at the point where we could save this tiny home. It was a big repair that started with cutting out each rotten piece of framing one by one cutting off all of the fasteners from the interior finishing and cutting out the utilities in the studs and then installing new full studs from the bottom plate to the top plate, not to mention the sections of bottom plate that had to be replaced. This painstaking process allowed us to leave the interior finishing intact, which reduced the overall scope of this repair. Once the framing was fixed and insulation put back in we were able to re-sheathe the framing, adding plywood around the bottom plate to keep everything tied in.
Once the framing and sheeting repair was finished, I continued by properly wrapping the trailer with the proper detail around the windows and siding changes so that this problem can’t happen again. Despite the poor original siding installation, we were able to reuse it with a couple changes to ensure there are no more moisture issues. Then installed new LP smart siding to replace the original wooden siding that had rotted.
This is a permanent repair that I am 100% certain will outlast the rest of the structure and now my clients can go back to enjoying their tiny home in their slice of the Shuswap and not have to worry about their trailer falling apart.
