I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty excited about this one. Metric Electrical Services are proud to partner with Autonomic to provide high quality whole home audio in their Mirage series amplifiers and streamers. Paired and integrated with a RadioaRa2 system, I think my clients will find many years of enjoyment in this serious set of equipment.

Absolutely fascinating.

A French start-up has developed a concrete flywheel to store solar energy in an innovative way. Currently being tested in France, the storage solution will be initially offered in France's overseas territories and Africa.

I have come across a new product I'm finding quite exciting. Leviton has created the concept of smart circuit breakers. According to the inspector I have installed the first example in the CRD which I'm not 100% sure I believe but there you have it.

Features include individual circuit power level monitoring and recording, alerts to your smart device, and remote deactivation of individual circuits if desired. Ordinary breakers are also available if you don't want to spend the money on a whole panels worth of smart breakers. We're living in an amazing time.

Even if it is me saying it, I think these floor outlets ended up looking pretty darn good.

As it was a tricky install involving in-floor heating, a concrete layer and a rubberised flexible layer, some extra care and attention has paid off. TV will be enjoyed here soon! Can't wait to see the final.

In case there are those who were not aware, the BC Hydro rebate program in the purchase and installation of Level 2 EV chargers is closing soon. Last submission is 28th Feb so here's still time to take advantage of this amazing program.

Eligible costs:

Purchase cost of the EV charger.
Labour and construction costs for installation by a licensed electrician.
Electrical and related permit costs.
Cost of electrical design required for the charging station.+

There's still time but not lots so don't tarry. There's lots of incentives right now to get into an EV (aside from the price of gas) with point of sale rebates and incentives to scrap the gas guzzler so it's a better time than ever to go electric. Sometimes it can certainly be gratifying to see the benefit of what we do so vividly shown. Today's example, a wildly overheated neutral bar. Although regularly taking a look inside your electrical panel is not common, or even recommended for a homeowner to undertake themselves, having an electrician take a look if they're ever in your home for any other reason can be beneficial. Especially if your panel is old and in need of replacement.

This panel clearly had been experiencing overheating for some time. Most likely due to corrosion on the neutral terminal. At this stage, maintenance is no longer a viable option. Make sure your electrician is taking a look if they're in your panel. It only takes a moment to check everything is tight and secure, and if there's a serious issue they'll be able to let you know.

All of us here are heartened by the increasingly good news in our health region. Island Health is looking strong for a speedy return to normal (the boss saw people sitting INSIDE at Tim Horton's yesterday) although of course to remain vigilant and cautious is the smart move at this time.

What a crazy time this has been. Metric Electric would like to reassure and remind everyone that while we're taking the new reality very seriously, we're not allowing it to prevent us from providing service to anyone in need of our assistance.

Please be aware that although we have been blessed in BC with some progress, the situation remains tenuous and everyone can remain assured that our staff will take all possible precautions, and we recognise that it is far too soon to become complacent.

It has been my privilege to provide maintenance to The Old Attic in one capacity or another for last 7 years or so. Always great to have the chance to look around in between maintaining the lighting. It's quite the collection of items they have there. And free coffee too.

Fun fact of the day: BC Hydro will provide as much as $350 to the purchase and install of a level 2 EV charger. But as always there's a catch. It has to be installed and the rebate application has to be submitted by March 31st, which as of writing is 40 days away. There's still time but, you know, better hurry up.
