Most people don’t realize how much proper installation training matters for a pool project.

We recently completed the AFI Certification course, learning advanced installation practices for fiberglass pool systems and surrounding hardscapes.

Because the difference between a good project and a great one is the details you don’t see — base prep, drainage, and proper installation methods.

Vinyl pool or fiberglass pool?

Both are great options, but they each have different advantages depending on your backyard and priorities.

✔ Vinyl pools offer more customization and lower upfront cost.
✔ Fiberglass pools offer faster installation and lower maintenance.

From a patio contractor’s perspective, both pool types work well with interlock, natural stone, or concrete patios when installed properly.

Is rock salt really bad for interlocking pavers?

The truth is more nuanced. Rock salt is generally safe when used properly — but overuse can lead to joint sand loss and movement, especially with Ontario’s freeze-thaw cycles.

Many local suppliers recommend careful use of calcium chloride during extreme cold and sand for traction to reduce stress on your interlock system.

It’s not about using more product — it’s about using it right.
