ALABASTER & EBONY 🤍 🖤
Same Space. A Whole New Vibe.

Sometimes a room doesn’t need a renovation. Sometimes it just needs a little personality.

Take a look at these two spaces — the bones are exactly the same. Same furniture. Same finishes. Same beautiful Alabaster & Ebony palette.

But add a vibrant throw and a few colourful pillows…and suddenly the whole room feels different. 💗🧡

That’s the power of accessories.

Throw pillows, blankets, artwork, décor and even a few carefully chosen objects can completely change the mood of a room — without changing the expensive pieces.

And that’s one of my favourite design tricks.

Keep your larger, more permanent pieces relatively timeless, then have some fun with the things that are easy (and inexpensive!) to switch out.

Feeling bold? Bring in hot pink, burnt orange or emerald green.

Want something quieter next season? Swap them for soft sage, dusty blue or warm camel.

When your base works, your accessories can change with the seasons, the trends…or simply your mood.

Good design doesn’t always mean changing everything. Sometimes it’s knowing exactly what not to change. 🖤

Pretty spaces are only part of the story. 🏡✨

One of my favourite things about looking back through our project photos is seeing just how many little decisions happen between “we have an idea…” and “THIS is our new space!”

It’s the drawings.
The planning.
The cabinetry layouts.
The material selections.
The things we uncover once construction starts.
The problem solving.
The tiny details that probably no one will ever notice — except us. 😉
And finally… seeing it all come together.

At The Design Studio | MTS Renovations, we get to work on some incredibly varied spaces — kitchens, bathrooms, basements, whole-home renovations and commercial projects — but our approach is always the same:

Design it thoughtfully.
Plan it properly.
Build it practically.

Because good design isn’t just about how a space photographs when it’s finished. It’s about how it functions on an ordinary Tuesday morning, how it holds up to real life, and how it continues to work for the people using it for years to come.

✨ NEW PROJECT ADDED TO OUR WEBSITE PORTFOLIO | Room to Stay, Space to Gather

Some projects are special because of the transformation. Others are special because of the people behind them. This one was both.

We truly had the most amazing time working with some of the best clients ever on this complete basement development. ❤️

We started with a completely unfinished basement and worked with this family from the initial design concept to the layout and construction design, through drawings, permitting, selections and specifications, cabinetry planning and finally construction and completion.

The goal was to create a space where their young adult children could have a little more independence while still making the basement somewhere the whole family—and their friends—would genuinely want to gather.

The finished space includes two bedrooms, an incredible home gym, wet bar, pool table and entertainment area, plus a quiet-luxury bathroom designed especially as the clients daughter’s dream bathroom.

From the warm woods and rich green shower tile to the brass details, black-and-white mosaic flooring and custom bar, every space was designed to complement the modern home upstairs while bringing a little more warmth, personality and fun downstairs.

But our favourite part of this project wasn’t a particular finish or design detail.

We were invited to their housewarming party after the project was complete, and watching the pride and excitement with which they showed their new basement to their friends and family absolutely made our hearts explode. ❤️

That is why we do what we do.

At the end of the day, it’s always about the people behind the project and creating spaces that change how they live, gather and feel in their home.

🎉 I’M SO EXCITED — WE DID IT! 🎉

Development Permit ✅
Building Permit ✅

After countless hours of drawings, documentation, coordination, revisions, problem-solving and working through the municipal process, we officially have approval from the City of Edmonton to move forward on a particularly complex project!

And I have to say… this one feels GOOD. 🙌

Interior design is so much more than selecting beautiful finishes. On projects like this, my role starts long before construction — understanding what’s possible, navigating land use and building requirements, developing the drawings, coordinating with other professionals, responding to the City and finding solutions when a project doesn’t fit neatly into the box.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about taking a project from:

“Can we actually do this?”

to…

“YES — WE’RE APPROVED!” 🎉
