Please do not hurt me or my mom. ♥️🦊♥️
We just temporarily moved to the neighborhood so we could be “safe.”
If you have suddenly seen a fox in the yard near your home, there is a good reason for this.
It is denning season. Between the end of March and early April, a mother fox will give birth to between 4 and 5 kits (a baby fox is called a kit).
A coyote will often find a fox den, dig out the babies, and kill them.
A mother fox knows this and will frequently choose a den site close to people, away from where coyotes generally go.
A fox will often den under a porch, shed, garage, barn, or side of a hill, trying to keep her little family safe.
Please offer them a short-term rental because this is not a permanent situation.
If you are lucky enough to see how beautiful an adult fox is, or witness the kits playing (at a distance of course), you will be glad you did!
It is not uncommon for Red Foxes to change dens several times during the season, so you may not see them for long.
Kits are slow to develop and will not leave the den until they are about a month old. Foxes do not live in a den year-round, only when a mother has babies.
During the summer as the kits grow older, you will see less and less of them, and by September everyone will have packed up and moved on. Please do not call a service (conservation) to “relocate them”, they will often be killed.
If you see a fox during the day, it does not mean she is rabid. A mother fox works tirelessly to feed her kits and will often be out during daylight hours foraging for food.
Foxes are omnivores, generally feeding on berries, grasses, and small rodents. They are solitary and prefer to be left alone.
They do not want to hunt and eat your children, mate with your dog, or kill your cat.
A fox just wants a place to raise her family safely, please allow her to do that.

Booking for spring 2023 for carpenter ants

They build nests inside wood consisting of galleries chewed out with their mandibles or jaws, preferably in dead, damp wood. However, unlike termites, they do not consume wood discarding a material that resembles sawdust outside their nest. Sometimes, carpenter ants hollow out sections of trees. They also commonly infest wooden buildings and structures, and are a widespread problem and major cause of structural damage. Nevertheless, their ability to excavate wood helps in forest decomposition. The genus includes over 1,000 species. They also farm aphids. In their farming, the ants protect the aphids from predators (usually other insects) while they excrete a sugary fluid called honeydew, which the ants get by stroking the aphids with their antennae.

Discription
Camponotus are generally large ants, with workers being 4-7 mm long in small species or 7-13 mm in large species, queens being 9-20 mm long and males being 5-13 mm long. The bases of the antennae are separated from the clypeal border by a distance of at least the antennal scape's maximum diameter. The mesosoma in profile usually forms a continuous curve from the pronotum through to the propodeum

Housing

Carpenter ant species reside both outdoors and indoors in moist, decaying, or hollow wood, most commonly in forest environments. They cut "galleries" into the wood grain to provide passageways to allow for movement between different sections of the nest. Certain parts of a house, such as around and under windows, roof eaves, decks and porches, are more likely to be infested by carpenter ants because these areas are most vulnerable to moisture

Carpenter ants have been known to construct extensive underground tunneling systems. These systems often lead to an end at some food source – often aphid colonies, where the ants extract and feed on honeydew. These tunneling systems also often exist in trees. The colonies typically include a central "parent" colony surrounded and supplemented by smaller satellite colonies.

Food

Carpenter ants are considered both predators and scavengers. These ants are foragers that typically eat parts of other dead insects or substances derived from other insects. Common foods for them include insect parts, "honeydew" produced by aphids, or extrafloral nectar from plants. They are also known for eating other sugary liquids such as honey, syrup, or juices. Carpenter ants can increase the survivability of aphids when they tend them. They tend many aphid species but can also express preference for specific ones.

Most species of carpenter ants forage at night. When foraging, they usually collect and consume dead insects. Some species less commonly collect live insects. When they discover a dead insect, workers surround it and extract its bodily fluids to be carried back to the nest. The remaining chitin-based shell is left behind. Occasionally, the ants bring the chitinous head of the insect back to the nest, where they also extract its inner tissue The ants can forage individually or in small or large groups, though they often opt to do so individually. Different colonies in close proximity may have overlapping foraging regions, although they typically do not assist each other in foraging. Their main food sources normally include proteins and carbohydrates.

When workers find food sources, they communicate this information to the rest of the nest. They use biochemical pheromones to mark the shortest path that can be taken from the nest to the source. When a sizable number of workers follows this trail, the strength of the cue increases and a foraging trail is established. This ends when the food source is depleted. The workers will then feed the queen and the larvae by consuming the food they have found, and regurgitating (trophallaxis) the food at the nest. Foraging trails can either be under or above ground

Although carpenter ants do not tend to be extremely aggressive, they have developed mechanisms to maximize their provision from a food source when that same food source is visited by a competing organism. This is accomplished in different ways. Sometimes they colonize an area near a relatively static food supply. More often, they develop a systemic way to visit the food source with alternating trips by different individual ants or groups. This allows them to decrease the gains of intruders because the intruders tend to visit in a scattered, random, and unorganized manner. The ants, however, visit the sources systematically such that they lower the mean standing crop. They tend to visit more resource-dense food areas in an attempt to minimize resource availability for others. That is, the more systematic the foraging behavior of the ants, the more random that of its competitors.

Contrary to popular belief, carpenter ants do not actually eat wood because they are unable to digest cellulose. They only create tunnels and nests within it.

Some carpenter ant species can obtain nitrogen by feeding on urine or urine-stained sand. This may be beneficial in nitrogen-limited environments.

Silverfish

Notably elusive, silverfish are nocturnal creatures that move swiftly when disturbed to escape detection. Silverfish prefer dark, moist environments with humidity levels between 75 and 95 percent. Outdoors, silverfish primarily live under rocks, leaf mold, and tree bark. In residential buildings, common silverfish habitats include basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics. The insects often inhabit the cracks and crevices of walls and floors. Normally capable of moving at rapid speeds, silverfish lack the ability to climb smooth surfaces.

How long do silverfish bugs live?:
For silverfish, the reproductive process begins with an elaborate mating ritual performed between males and females. At the conclusion of the ritual, male silverfish deposit a s***m capsule that the female absorbs for fertilization. Female silverfish lay their eggs, often in small groups, within tiny cracks and crevices. The eggs typically hatch in three to six weeks. Newly hatched silverfish look like miniature adult silverfish and acquire the distinctive shiny appearance of adults within 40 days. The average female silverfish will lay up to 100 eggs during her life. Silverfish have a lifespan ranging from two to eight years.

What do they eat?:
Silverfish are generally scavenger feeders that will eat virtually anything available. The insects, however, prefer to feed on carbohydrates and proteins. Within their natural habitat outdoors, silverfish mainly consume vegetable matter. Silverfish living among humans often eat common household items and frequently invade kitchen pantries. Despite their established dietary preferences, silverfish can survive without food for up to a year.

How did i get silverfish?
Silverfish prefer dark, moist environments with humidity levels above 75%. Outdoors, silverfish like to live under rocks, leaf mould, and tree bark. In homes, silverfish live in cracks and crevices in basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics.

These pests are scavengers that will eat virtually anything available, especially carbohydrates and proteins. Outdoors, they consume vegetable matter, but once indoors, they will feed on flour, dried meat, glue, wallpaper, cereal, rolled oats, and other starches.

How can I prevent silverfish invading?
Keep rooms cool, clean, and dry, Vacuum cracks and crevices frequently, Use dehumidifiers to lower humidity, Remove old papers, boxes, books, and clothes

The Western Spotted Skunk (Spilogale gracilis) is one of two species of Skunk found in British Columbia. The two species are significantly different in appearance. The Spotted Skunk is half the size and more slender than the more familiar Striped Skunk, and it is more weasel-like in appearance

Habitation in BC

In British Columbia, this species occurs only in the southwest mainland. Confirmed records include the Fraser Valley (east to Cultus Lake), Sunshine Coast, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby and Pitt Meadows (near Maple Ridge)

Based on news reports, in 2013 a mature male Spotted Skunk was rescued from a trap in West Vancouver and, also in 2013, a Spotted Skunk was brought into the Wildlife Rescue Association in Burnaby.

Breeding

Females breed during late September-October. Implantation is delayed, total gestation period lasts 210-230 days. Litter size is 4-6. Young leave nest about 1 month after birth, follow mother until almost full grown. Sexually mature in 4-5 months.

Diet

Insects, rodents, small birds, and possibly bird eggs constitute most of diet. Reptiles and amphibian s also taken, as are many types of fruits and berries.

More information

More nocturnal than is striped skunk, rarely seen abroad during daylight hours. Active throughout the yea

The Pacific Treefrog is the most commonly heard frog on the west coast. The color of the individual can vary. They are most often a green or a gray, but may also be brown or black. Within the same individual it may change colors within only a few minutes from one color to another. They usually have some dorsal marking One thing that goes without exception, however, is the dark band running through the eye towards the front limb and the white underbelly. They are a small treefrog attaining lengths up to 2 inches. The voice of this frog is known around the world – the “ribbit” that Hollywood uses in all of its films as the “standard” frog call is actually the call of the Pacific Treefrog
