π§ Are your drains slow and making gurgling noises? π€
Many homeowners assume a slow drain means there's a blockage, but sometimes the problem is actually poor venting.
As wastewater flows through your drain pipes, it pushes air ahead of it. A properly functioning vent allows that displaced air to escape, so water can flow smoothly.
When the vent is blocked, or there isn't adequate venting, the air has nowhere to go. The water and trapped air end up competing for the same space inside the pipe, causing:
π Slow drainage
𫧠Gurgly or bubbling drains
π½ Slow to empty after flushing
π¦ In some cases, drains may even back up.
Not every slow drain is caused by a blocked vent. In fact, many are simply the result of build-up or a partially clogged drain.
Depending on what we find, we may recommend:
β
Professional drain cleaning to remove blockages
β
Installing an Air Admittance Valve (often called a "cheater vent") where appropriate
β
Camera inspection if another plumbing issue is suspected
β
A roofing company to check vents on roof
