Aniin, Boozhoo, Tansi 👋🏽

Welcome! My English name is Ellen (Lisa) Valen. My spirit name is Kind Hearted Eagle
Woman. I am from Treaty Territory #2, with status to Dauphin River First Nation. While I
grew up off-reserve in the town of Teulon, MB, where I completed my High School studies,
my path eventually led me to Winnipeg. There, I pursued higher education at the University
of Manitoba, earning both a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Work degrees, along
with a specialized diploma in Aboriginal Child and Family Services.

My professional journey in child welfare began in 2007 as a Family Service Worker. In 2010,
I transitioned into a management role, where I had the privilege of serving for 14 years.
With great humility and honor, I have now embarked on a new professional journey,
accepting the position of Executive Director for Brokenhead First Nation Child and Family
Services.

I am excited to work closely with the community of Brokenhead and be a part of the
important and meaningful journey to support and uphold Bimaadizewag Abinoojiiag
Inaakonigewin (Our Children Will Live Law), as we move forward in exercising the
community’s inherent jurisdiction.
