Tourism Saskatchewan Career Information Coordinator Kale Johnson recently stopped to meet with Grade 10 students from Melfort & Unit Comprehensive Collegiate.

The class recently joined Tourism Saskatchewan’s Teacher Explorer’s Club, and Kale caught up with students at the Melfort & District Museum while they participated in a scavenger hunt. With donuts from a local bakery in hand, he spent some time discussing careers in Saskatchewan’s tourism industry and the resources and opportunities available through the Explorer’s Club.

Last week, tourism industry members gathered in Regina for Tourism Saskatchewan’s AI, Market Intelligence and Growth Industry Workshop to explore how data, traveller insights and artificial intelligence are reshaping the future of tourism.

Throughout the day, participants heard from Olga Goldin of Destination Canada, Jon Schmiemann of Expedia Group and Peter Pilarski of Tourism AI Network, who shared insights, tools and practical strategies to help tourism businesses and organizations make more informed decisions, understand changing traveller behaviour and strengthen their digital presence.

Three key themes emerged throughout the day:

📊 Using tourism data and market intelligence to make smarter decisions
Understanding visitor trends, markets and opportunities can help tourism businesses and destinations strengthen planning, marketing and development.

🔎 Understanding how travellers discover, plan and book travel
Traveller behaviour continues to evolve, making it increasingly important for tourism businesses to understand how visitors research destinations and move from inspiration to booking.

🤖 Preparing for AI and the future of tourism marketing
Artificial intelligence is changing how travellers search for information and discover destinations, creating new opportunities for tourism businesses to strengthen their digital visibility and authority.
