Today we are reminded of our ongoing responsibility to honour residential school survivors, their families and the children who never returned home. By seeking out projects that we believe will make a difference we have been honoured to work with numerous First Nations. Recently, we have had the particular privilege of listening to, learning from and working with Sturgeon Lake First Nation to deliver the first Indigenous led birthing centre in the province. Through places such as this, where every child will come into the world surrounded by warmth, love and family, we hope to build a better tomorrow.

Wallace Krueger Architects has conducted a top-to-bottom review of our standard project specifications to maximize Canadian content and to support the Canadian economy. We have checked every product and material we regularly specify on building projects, to ensure that if there is a good quality, Canadian-made option available, it is specified. From now on, WKA buildings will be, to the greatest extent possible, made in Canada.

We were proud to help bring this one into the world: nihtāwikihāwasow and ohpikihāwasowkamik Birthing and Childrearing Lodge opened its doors in Treaty 6 territory on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. SLFN had a specific vision of providing spaces for expecting mothers to be able to birth children on their own terms, in the warmth of a log structure. We were happy to rise to the challenge of combining this traditional technique with their healthcare needs. The grand opening was a proud day for ourselves and the Nation.
