🔥 When a fire alarm activates, every second matters. But who makes sure the right response happens?

A fire can start when a building is empty, or when people are inside but may not be able to act quickly on their own.

That is where professional fire alarm monitoring adds another layer of protection.

With monitored fire detection, alarm signals are received by trained professionals who can initiate the appropriate response, whether your building is occupied or not.

Damar’s ULC listed monitoring station provides professional monitoring around the clock, helping ensure a fire alarm is more than just a local warning.

Because when a fire alarm activates, getting the right response matters.

🔥 Lithium ion battery fires are different. Do you know the warning signs?

For Fire Prevention Week, we are focusing on a growing fire risk found in almost every home and workplace: lithium ion batteries.

Phones, laptops, power tools, e bikes, scooters and even vehicles rely on lithium ion batteries. If one becomes damaged, overheated or improperly charged, it can enter thermal runaway, a rapid, self sustaining reaction that can produce intense heat, fire and hazardous smoke.

A few important precautions:

• Use only manufacturer approved chargers and charging equipment.
• Never charge devices on beds, couches or other soft, combustible surfaces.
• Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, unusually hot, leaking, smoking or giving off an unusual smell.
• Be especially cautious when charging larger batteries such as e bikes, scooters and power tools.
• Never place lithium ion batteries in household garbage or regular recycling.
• If a lithium ion battery begins smoking or burning, get out, stay out and call 911. Do not breathe the smoke or fumes.

Early warning matters. Smoke and heat detection in garages and other charging areas can provide valuable notification before a developing fire spreads.

Before you hand over another spare key, consider a smarter way to manage access to your home.

Smart locks integrated with your security system let you provide individual access to family, housekeepers, contractors or other trusted visitors without another physical key floating around.

Today’s smart home technology can let you control access by person, door, day or time, and change or remove access when it’s no longer needed.

You stay in control of who can enter your home and when, without having to get a key back or change the locks.

A small water leak can become a big problem surprisingly quickly.

Today’s smart security systems can do more than protect your home and business from burglary and fire. Water sensors can be placed near appliances, sump pumps, water heaters and other areas where leaks may occur, providing an alert when unwanted water is detected.

With even more advanced water management technology, your system can help take action too, including automatically shutting off the main water supply when a leak is detected.

Because protecting your home isn’t just about keeping unwanted people out. It’s also about detecting problems before they become costly damage.
