Option 2-B
Combi on demand and furnace in one.
(For those who also have a troublesome or old furnace that is due for replacement)
You may not have the application for this right now, but it is sure interesting.
Pros:
The highest possible efficiency at .97eff. for making domestic hot water as well as fully modulating (more efficient) forced air heating.
Provides the greatest chance of seeing a payback in fuel consumption over the long term.
It is an on demand water heater for endless hot water for the same applications mentioned previously.
High output on demand, for mulitiple fixture useage.
Onboard ballast tank to prevent "bunching" as discribed previously.
Small footprint for greater storage.
Cost saving when compared to installing seperate forced air furnace and on demand hot water heating units.
Reduced risk of leaks compared to tank style equipment.
Manufactured by a Canadian company NTI. The products from this company are well known as the best in the industry.
The service life is expected to be very long. No hot water tank replacement cost every 10-15 years.
Cons
A little more expensive up front compared to a basic high efficiency furnace(.94eff) with a seperate basic hot water tank(.62eff.).
However, not if you look at it over the long term. There is no better option after 5-10 years, depending on usage.
