A few exterior shots as we wrap up another custom build in the Shuswap.

Set into the trees overlooking Shuswap Lake, this three-storey home brings together creamy stucco, substantial timber framing, a solid wood front door and a colonial red standing seam roof. Large windows throughout the home were designed around the lake-facing side, and permanent exterior track lighting was incorporated into the finished exterior.

There’s a warmth to the combination of stucco, timber and the red metal roof that carries through the architecture and gives the home a classic, almost European feel.

Custom homes give our clients the freedom to build something that feels like them, from the overall architecture right down to the finishing details.

A full-circle project for Connor MacDonald Construction.

We originally built this home and years later, we’ve been back to help give the exterior a fresh new look — with fire resilience in mind.

After having the home assessed through the BC FireSmart program, the homeowners began making updates to help reduce their home’s vulnerability to wildfire. The original cedar shake siding has been replaced with white board and batten and black HardiePlank across the home, carriage house and shop, while the asphalt shingle roof has been replaced with a black standing seam metal roof.

The new exterior ties in beautifully with the original corrugated metal accents, keeping some of the character of the original home while giving the entire property a fresh, cohesive look.

A thoughtful renovation with a purpose and a pretty great way to see a home we originally built evolve over the years.
