With Thanksgiving coming up this weekend, we want to remind everyone that grease, fat, oils, gravy, and basically anything other than soap and water don't belong down the drain. Don't think because it is a liquid, it will be fine. Once it cools, most fats harden, which can lead to clogged pipes. Not what anyone wants after your Thanksgiving feast.

Make sure to keep your long weekend thankful, by pouring excess cooking liquids into a separate container and disposing of it in the garbage. Your plumbing will thank you for it. 🦃

The people are coming. What should you do?

CELEBRATE!🦃 It's Thanksgiving weekend!

But in order to make sure the festivities stay merry, there are a few things you can do beforehand to make sure of it. And we're not talking extra w**e (although that doesn't hurt either). What do you think Ambrose Plumbing & Heating Ltd. has in mind?

PLUMBING!
🍂Check your toilet flush beforehand. If it is weak, has a slow swirl, or needs a second flush—deal with it BEFORE anyone arrives. It might just need an adjustment, or could use some TLC from a pro. Don't leave it to chance.
🦃Put a garbage can in the bathroom. Mention to your guests to not flush anything other than toilet paper, p*e, or p**p. Anything else goes in the trash.
🍂Keep a plunger near the toilet, just to be on the safe side.

🍂Standing in water in the shower? Now is the time to deal with that, before you have a house full of extra people and overburdened pipes. Try snaking the drain to remove any clogs of hair and soap that might be trapped there.
🦃Still got a sluggish or smelly drain? You could pour in some baking soda and vinegar and hope for the best. OR you could call in your favourite plumber Pronto, to deal with the issue before your guests arrive.
🍂Another tip is to space out showers, so as not to overwhelm your plumbing. Give it time to drain the pipes. This will give your hot water tank a chance to refill as well.

🍂When it comes to cleanup, think about running appliances after peak activity. Run the dishwasher when you go to bed. Wash the table linens after everyone leaves. Save water use so it can be spaced out.
🦃If things still go turkey on you, know where the water shut off valves are.

Cottage season is winding to a close. Unless you have an all-season cottage that you visit year round, you need to winterize it before the cold weather sets in.

Before you leave for the season, make sure to;

🍁Turn off your Hot Water Tank
🍁Drain the water heater & blow out the lines
🍁Turn on all the taps to drain them
🍁Winterize the sinks, tubs, showers, and toilets
🍁Turn off the power

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Not sure why we recognize it? The last Residential School in Ontario closed in 1991. That is 35 years ago. The first school opened in 1828, meaning they operated for 163 years. Sadly, we now know that many of those schools also housed abuse, neglect, and led to the death of children. They left behind a legacy of trauma that still ripples through communities across the country.

Recognizing that is one of the steps towards reconciliation. Today is an important day for not only Indigenous people, but Canada as a whole. Let's continue to work towards healing, strengthening communities, and celebrating our Indigenous past, present and future generations.
