A project that offers a different perspective on outdoor living...

Overlooking downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, this condo patio trades the traditional backyard for sweeping city views and an outdoor kitchen designed for entertaining.

The homeowner envisioned an urban “party pad,” a place to gather with friends before heading out into the city or settle in and enjoy the skyline from above.

Designed by Todd Wiley of TruKitchens in collaboration with interior designer Andrea Nemes, the space combines custom NatureKast cabinetry, integrated appliances and clever storage solutions to bring the conveniences of a complete kitchen outdoors.

What makes an award-winning outdoor space?

It’s not one singular element, but how every part of the space works together. A fully equipped outdoor kitchen, covered dining and lounge areas, a putting green and layered landscaping come together to create a backyard that feels like a true extension of the home.

At its heart is a covered entertainment pavilion featuring NatureKast Weatherproof Cabinetry, bringing refined design and enduring performance to the outdoor kitchen and bar. For this waterfront home on Buck Bayou, the vision was to create a poolside cabana fully connected to the architecture – a natural extension of the home rather than an addition.

Designer Julie Whitten drew from the home’s clean lines and understated detailing to create a space that feels cohesive and welcoming. Generous prep surfaces, a full suite of appliances, and bar seating designed for gathering support everything from relaxed afternoons by the pool to evenings spent preparing the day’s fresh catch.
