Niagara Strong: Standing With Our Community Through the Recent Flooding

Over the past couple of weeks, our region has been tested. Back-to-back storms at the end of July and again on August 2nd brought an extraordinary amount of rain to Niagara — enough that St. Catharines and Lincoln both declared states of emergency, and communities across the peninsula, from Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake, are still dealing with the aftermath. Basements flooded, roads washed out, and local vineyards and farms took on significant water. For many neighbours, it’s the second time in a matter of days that they’ve had to start the cleanup all over again.

At Grey Forest Homes, Niagara isn’t just where we build — it’s where we live. So when our community goes through something like this, we feel it too. We’ve been thinking of everyone affected, from families bailing out basements to the local growers watching their fields sit underwater, and we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge what so many of our neighbours are going through right now.

If you or someone you know was affected, here are a few starting points:
• Niagara Falls residents can register with the city’s Flood Recovery Support Registry for help with cleanup and disposal of flood-damaged materials.
• The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) posts current flood status updates and offers the Alertable app for real-time emergency notifications going forward.
• Local municipal websites and social channels are the best source for up-to-date recovery information specific to your area.

Events like this are a reminder of how important thoughtful drainage, grading, and construction planning are when building in our region. As we continue our own work across Niagara, resilience against extreme weather stays front of mind — not just for the homes we build, but for the community around them.
