At Olaus #1, we’re down to the final soft landscaping before the project is fully complete, and we can already picture our clients enjoying the views of Red Mountain from their back patio.

Thinking about building a custom home next year? It’s worth starting the conversation sooner than you might think.

The process typically starts with a 2-week introduction phase, followed by 2–6 months of planning, 12–16 months of building, and 2–6 weeks for the final completion phase.

Every custom home is different, so these are planning ranges rather than fixed deadlines. Factors like site conditions, permitting, design complexity, material lead times, and finishes can affect the timeline.

At our 6th Ave renovation, we’re working through several important stages of the building envelope. On the exterior, weather-protection and airtightness membranes help protect the structure from the elements while creating a continuous airtight layer.

Inside, mineral wool insulation within the wall and roof assemblies reduces heat transfer and improves indoor comfort, while a vapour-control and airtightness membrane manages moisture and limits unwanted air leakage.

Together, these layers contribute to a more durable, comfortable and energy-efficient home.
