Saskatchewan Winters vs. Your Pipes: Who Will Win? ❄️

Hey Rosetown neighbors! Around here, we know a Saskatchewan winter doesn’t mess around. When the temperature drops past -30°C, your home's plumbing is put to the ultimate test.
The last thing you want is to wake up to freezing cold water or, even worse, a burst pipe flooding your basement in the middle of a blizzard.
Before the deep freeze truly sets in, take 10 minutes to run through this quick checklist:
1. Disconnect Outdoor Hoses: Leaving them attached traps water inside the tap, leading to a guaranteed split pipe inside your wall.
2. Shut Off Exterior Water Lines: Drain your outdoor taps completely from the inside shut-off valve.
3. Insulate Vulnerable Spots: Check your crawl spaces, rim joists, and unheated basements. Wrap any exposed pipes in foam insulation.
4. Know Your Main Shut-Off: Make sure everyone in the house knows exactly where the main water valve is and how to turn it off in an emergency.
