WHAT TO DO IN AUGUST🌿Fertilizing your lawn in late summer or early fall is an essential step in your seasonal maintenance routine. It revitalizes summer-stressed grass, stimulates root development before winter and provides the nutrients needed for a lush, green lawn in the spring.

WHAT TO DO IN AUGUST🌿Dethatching is highly recommended if the thatch layer is more than 1.25 cm thick, and especially if you have decided to overseed to thicken your lawn. Dead debris on the surface smothers the grass, preventing good seed-to-soil contact and optimal germination.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR IN AUGUST 🐛 In addition to white grubs and chinch bugs, you should also watch out for the emergence of sod webworms in August. The small white moths that you see flying when you walk on your lawn or when you mow it can cause considerable damage.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR IN AUGUST 🐛 Controlling white grubs in August is strategic because the eggs have just hatched. The young larvae are small and vulnerable, and they move closer to the surface to feed on grass roots. Treating in August maximizes the effectiveness of environmentally friendly nematode treatments.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR IN AUGUST 🐛 A chinch bug is a tiny insect pest that attacks lawns by sucking the sap from grass blades. It causes the appearance of yellow or brownish patches that enlarge rapidly in the middle of summer.

This is a natural defence mechanism. During periods of intense heat or drought, grass curls its blades to reduce the surface area exposed to the sun, helping limit water loss and retain moisture in its roots. Your lawn needs about 3 cm of water per week, including rainfall.
