This front yard near the DVP looks even better after dark than it does in daylight.

We tucked warm LED strips under every stair tread so the steps look like they’re floating. The house number gets its own uplight so it reads clean from the street at night. Spotlights graze the garden beds and trees to give the whole yard depth once the sky goes blue, and every fixture runs on one warm white tone so there’s no cold blue spots mixed in.

The trick is planning the lighting before the hardscape goes in. That way the wiring stays hidden and every fixture lands exactly where it should, not wherever there’s room left over.

Eduard’s seen backyards that look more like parking lots than places anyone actually wants to sit in.

His take is simple. Covering the whole space in hardscaping is the mistake. What people undervalue is soft scaping, trees, shrubs, even a minimal amount, plus lighting and a small water feature. Small additions, big difference in how the space actually feels.

A backyard isn’t finished when the concrete’s down. It’s finished when you actually want to be in it.

Some backyards get a pool. This one got a full resort, planned as one design from fence to fence.

Deep water with a jet black edge, a tanning ledge built into the shape of the pool, oversized paving that carries straight through to the lawn, and a cedar-covered lounge with an open flame that keeps the whole space going after the sun’s down.

Nothing here was added after the fact. It was all planned together, which is why it reads as one space instead of a pool with some stuff around it.
