Tape measure? Missing.
Utility knife? No idea.
Phone? Probably under a set of plans.
Coffee? I know EXACTLY where that is. 😂☕️

Good morning! Happy Monday!

Sorry for the lack of sneak peek Saturday post this weekend. I worked till almost 7pm Friday night then I was back on site by 730 Saturday. It did not leave any time for social media 😅

☕️This week☕️

☕️the bathroom project is getting mudded and taped.
☕️the flooring project has been demoed and stairwell has been painted. Ready for laminate and sheet vinyl flooring install.
☕️the new build in Balgonie gets basement and garage concrete.
☕️we continue framing the new build in Katepwa.
☕️the garage new build is getting sided.

So much going on this week. Good thing I don’t lose my coffee.

Something controversial I’ll never do as your custom home builder?

Just follow the electrical plan. 😏

The electrical plan is a starting point—but the person drawing it isn’t the person who will actually be living in your home.

That’s why, before rough-ins, we walk through the entire house with our clients and talk about how they’re actually going to use each space.

Where will the bed sit?
Where is the bookshelf going?
Where do you want to charge the vacuum?
Where does the Christmas décor go?
What gets plugged in beside the nightstand?
Which door will you naturally walk through when you want to turn that light on?

Because putting a switch where a bookshelf is going or an outlet directly behind the middle of your bed makes absolutely no sense just because “that’s where it was on the plan.” 😂

On this build, we added and adjusted electrical specifically around how our client plans to live in their home—including a closet plug for the Dyson, power for Christmas décor and low voltage for their illuminated house numbers.

These are easy, relatively inexpensive changes during rough-in.

After drywall, paint, cabinets and finishes are installed? They become a much bigger deal.

Custom means more than picking your flooring and cabinet colour. It means building the house around the people who are actually going to live in it. ❤️🏡

And this is why I pay my accountant. 😂☕️

But today’s Monday coffee post comes with a little something extra…

🥳Bases Covered Contracting turns 8 today! 🥳

8 years of owning this business, and somehow this year also marks 19 years for me in construction.

I’m 38… which means I have officially spent HALF OF MY LIFE working in construction. 😳🔨

There have been a LOT of lessons packed into those years. I’ve learned what works, what definitely does not work 😂, when to take the risk, when to say no, and that running a business is basically one very long lesson in figuring things out as you go.

But I’m incredibly grateful for all of it.

To every client who has trusted me with their home, every subtrade and supplier who helps bring these projects together, and my family and friends who have supported me through all the long days, late nights and crazy ideas — thank you. ❤️

Eight years in, Bases Covered looks a little different than it did when it started.

The projects are getting bigger.
We’re building houses.
We’re taking on projects I once would have only dreamed about.

And I’m pretty damn excited to see what comes next.

Happy 8th birthday, Bases Covered Contracting. 🥳🔨

Now back to work… because apparently my accountant says I cannot write off $19,735 worth of coffee. 🙄☕️😂

👀 Sneak Peek Saturday 👀

There’s just something about seeing BIG progress on one of our projects that makes me ridiculously happy. 💃🙌

The Balgonie build is officially into rough-ins! Electrical and plumbing are well underway and suddenly this framed house is starting to feel more and more like a home. 🏡

I will apparently never stop getting excited about watching a set of plans come to life.

A huge thank you to Town & Country Plumbing for all their hard work this week! 👊 absolutely crushed it.

Next week we are shingling and wrapping the home.

Today I do none of the things. The rain has postponed some work but I’m ok with that. Time for snugs on the couch with my corgi, Winston and unlimited hot coffee. 🐶☕️

Good morning! Happy Monday!

This week:

☕️our Balgonie new build gets plumbing, heating and electrical rough ins. The roof is also loaded with shingles and if it stops raining we will have shingles by the end of the week.

☕️our Katepwa new build is starting to get framed.

☕️our garage build will have drywall completed this week.

☕️we may throw in a bathroom demo my the end of the week depending on scheduling 😅

Have the best week ahead!

👀Saturday Sneak Peek 👀

From a drawing on paper to standing inside the actual home.

We’re officially done framing and ready to move on to the next stage: mechanical and electrical rough-ins!

It’s always exciting when a build reaches the point where you can truly walk through each room and start seeing the vision come to life. The room layouts and all of those beautiful windows are finally more than just lines on a set of plans.

One step closer to turning this into someone’s forever home. ❤️🔨🏡

A huge thank you to Red Fox Contracting for framing this one up for us.

Sometimes a project lands in your lap at exactly the right time. 🙌

This deck came to us through a referral from one of our lumber suppliers, and by some ✨MIRACLE✨ we had a gap in our schedule that allowed us to take it on short notice.

So we got to work!

Goodbye concrete stairs 👋
Hello picture-framed deck and stairs with a black handrail. 😍

We always appreciate referrals—especially from the amazing suppliers and people we work with! ❤️

Thanks to RBSL for giving me a hand with this project
Thanks to Fries Tallman for supplying the lumber, Trex decking and Vista handrail

👀Saturday Sneak Peek 👀

This garage has been a long time in the making, so I thought it was time for a little recap!

From that seriously reinforced concrete pad, to framing, mechanical and electrical rough-ins, windows and doors, insulation, and now drywall—we’ve come a LONG way.

It’s pretty wild to look back at where we started and see how much has happened since then.

We are mudding the garage now, and this garage is officially starting to feel like a finished space. 🙌

Still lots to do, but we’re getting there!

09/05/2026

This week we finished up a partial basement development for the best clients. The clients had demoed, removed a telepost and added a beam before we jumped in to work our magic.
They also took on the wall painting and carpet install 🙌

Just a little reminder that a finished space doesn’t happen overnight. 😉

Framing.
Drywall.
Finish Carpentry.
Paint.
Embassy Ceiling.
Stair Flooring.
Hardware.
All the little details.

And then one day…

You have a basement ready for you to make new memories in. 🏡

Thanks to
RBSL and Norse Contracting for giving me a hand with this project
Fries Tallman for supplying lumber, doors, trim and hardware
Kelturn Drywall Ltd for doing the drywall work
