It appears August has turned into an unofficial renovation month for Family Plumbing. We have been working on a lot of fun projects. Here’s a little photo dump of a recently completed bathroom renovation. This was a project we worked together with ServiceMaster.

HOT TIP FOR THE SUMMER!

We’ve attended countless calls this summer from frustrated homeowners sweating like pigs in the heat while their A/C decided it was the ideal time to go on strike.

A lot of homeowners forget about the supply vents in their basement—especially if it’s unfinished.

Here’s why it matters:

Cold air naturally sinks. If you’re pumping cool air into an undeveloped basement, a lot of it just stays there instead of helping cool the rooms where you actually spend your time.

If you have a two-storey home, try partially or fully closing the basement supply vents during the cooling season (as long as your basement doesn’t need cooling or humidity control). That helps push more conditioned air upstairs, where it’s usually the hardest to keep comfortable.

Every home is a little different, but this is a simple adjustment that can help improve comfort without touching the thermostat or your wallet.

Every spring we see outdoor faucet lines that froze and cracked over the winter without the homeowner realizing it. The leak usually doesn't show up until the water to the line is turned back on, and by then it can mean water damage behind walls and ceilings.

Before you leave the hose running this season, take a quick look and make sure everything is dry inside after turning your outdoor faucets on. A 2 minute check can save you a very expensive surprise.

Warning, is your home actually protected?

The video you’re seeing doesn’t even do the reality justice. This heat exchanger was riddled with cracks. Each of these cracks provides a direct path for carbon monoxide to enter the home’s air supply.

You may question why this homeowner didn't have carbon monoxide alarms? Thats the thing, they did. Multiple of them. But if there is one thing I tell homeowners more and more over the years, its that you cannot trust a $50 carbon monoxide alarm.

The truth is, CO alarms can fail, age out, or simply not trigger until levels are already dangerous.

You cannot trust an alarm to do the job of a yearly furnace inspection.

This is from a renovation project we're currently working on. This homeowner was very happy with their new kitchen sink install which included a new RO system, drinking faucet, and garburator.
The homeowner asked if we could provide them with as much extra space as possible for storage. Taking into account serviceability in the future, I think we accomplished that.

Example Usage; "That repair came with tail light warranty, and now it's costing me double to fix it."
