Some shots of the bedroom reno so far!
Let a fella know if you want anythingbm from headboard/bed frame, a platform to raise your bed and give your rooms some levels, or if ya want a feature wall or ceiling done, floating shelves or mantles. Even whipping up mirror frames and picture frames. If your into mosaics I could pull out artist attire and create a wall piece for ya as well.

People often think that barnwood is garbaged scrap wood that should cost almost next to nothing. When in fact it does cost a fair bit more then going to the lumber yard and purchasing new lumber material. But the proof is in the material when you compare modern day lumber yard lumber to old growth barnwood.

The cost to harvest this material isn’t a small cost. It costs time, fuel, tool repair and replacement due to the strenuous work load these tools take from the incredibly strong old nails and lumber that was used to build these big beautiful buildings years ago.

But here is an educated article to further explain Why Old-Growth Wood Costs More
(And Why It’s Worth It)

When you look at modern lumber-yard wood versus old-growth timber, you aren't just looking at a difference in age—you are looking at a completely different, superior product.
Here is why investing in old-growth timber is smarter, safer, and lasts generations longer than modern alternatives:

🚫 Natural Bug Resistance
• The Problem with Modern Lumber: Today’s trees are grown rapidly on commercial farms. They consist mostly of soft, starchy outer wood ("sapwood"), which acts like a sugar buffet for termites, carpenter ants, and powderpost beetles.

• The Old-Growth Advantage: Old-growth trees grew slowly over hundreds of years, creating a massive, dense core called heartwood. This heartwood is naturally packed with organic compounds like tannins and phenols—built-in chemical defenses that are literally toxic and unpalatable to wood-boring insects.
💧 Superior Mold & Rot Immunity

• The Problem with Modern Lumber: Fast-grown wood has wide, loose grain rings that act like a sponge. It absorbs moisture easily and stays damp, creating the perfect breeding ground for mold and wood rot.

• The Old-Growth Advantage: Because old-growth trees fought for sunlight in dense forests, they grew very slowly, packing their growth rings incredibly tight. This ultra-dense structure makes it highly water-resistant, leaving no microscopic room for moisture to sit or for mold roots to take hold.
💪 Unmatched Structural Strength

• The Problem with Modern Lumber: Wide growth rings make modern wood soft, unstable, and highly prone to warping, twisting, and cupping as the humidity changes.

• The Old-Growth Advantage: Wood strength comes from its density. Old-growth timber has up to four times as many growth rings per inch as modern lumber. This gives it immense structural strength, meaning it can support heavier loads over longer spans without sagging or bending.

The Bottom Line: Modern lumber is built for speed and low cost, requiring chemical treatments to survive. Old-growth timber was built by nature to endure. When you pay a premium for old-growth wood, you are paying for structural permanence, natural immunity to pests, and a material that will never need to be replaced in your lifetime.

This Bench first started out as a 10”x10” timber. It was then slabbed up using a chainsaw and guide to the thickness of 3”. -
-Then ran through the planer and sanded down.

-The front of the the bench and legs were wire wheeled to get all the rot out from the wood giving it that super nice rustic depth it has.

-Then followed go with a floppy disc sanding to smooth everything out as best as possible.

-The underside, backside and side of the legs were burnt to a crisp using a tiger torch.. a linseed oil was then applied to the entire bench followed up by a water based polyurethane.

The bench itself is 48” long and just under 10” wide. The bench is notched out so the legs are joined into the bench making it for a stronger longer lasting stability.
