GOOD ASPHALT STARTS WITH WHAT LEAVES THE SITE

Before anything gets paved, the wrong material has to go. Proper excavation, proper base, proper compaction. It is not glamorous, but it is why our commercial lots do not heave, rut or pond.

Spring 2027 commercial and civil bookings are open. Book early and pave on your timeline, not the waitlist's.

FLAT, DRAINED, AND READY FOR WEIGHT

An apron like this has one job: carry serious weight, shed water and stay flat for decades. Grades, drainage and joint layout were all planned before the first truck arrived. That is the difference engineering makes.

We are booking spring 2027 commercial and civil projects now. Get yours on the list.

ROLLED RIGHT OR DONE TWICE

Compaction is where asphalt jobs are won or lost. Watch our rollers work the fresh mat behind the paver, hitting density targets while the temperature is right. Cut corners here and the surface fails years early. We do not cut corners.

PAVED WITHOUT CLOSING THE DOORS

Retail parking lots cannot afford downtime. On this project our crews phased the work so the store stayed open every single day, with fresh asphalt going down section by section. That is how commercial paving should run.

Spring 2027 commercial and civil bookings are open now. Lock in your project before the schedule fills.

A customer asked us last week: "Do I need a whole new driveway, or can you just overlay it?"

That one word does a lot of work, so let's break it down.

Overlay (noun): a fresh layer of asphalt bonded over your existing pavement when the base underneath is still structurally sound.

It's not a patch. It's not cosmetic. It's a full new wearing surface that can add years of life to a driveway or parking lot, often at a fraction of the cost of a full tear-out and rebuild.

The catch is the base. After 30 Prairie winters of freeze-thaw cycles, some bases are shot. Water has worked its way underneath, the gravel has shifted, and no amount of new asphalt on top will save it. Other surfaces look rough but the foundation below is still solid. Those are the ones where an overlay is the smart call.

That's the judgment call we've been making on Regina driveways and lots for three decades. If you're wondering which camp your pavement falls into, we'll come take a look and tell you straight.

30 years. That's a lot of driveways, parking lots, and Prairie winters in between.

Our owner started in this trade three decades ago, and founded Regina Asphalt Paving in 2013 to bring that experience closer to home. Since then, we've worked through every kind of project the Prairies can throw at a paving crew. Cracked residential driveways after a brutal freeze-thaw spring. Commercial lots chewed up by years of heavy traffic and chinook swings. Rural approaches that need a base built to handle real Saskatchewan winters.

Here's what 30 years actually buys you as a customer: a crew that has already solved your problem before the first shovel hits the ground.

We know which base depth holds up west of the city. We know how to read a driveway that's settling wrong. We know when seal coating will save you money and when it's just delaying the inevitable.

That's the difference experience makes. And it's the standard we bring to every job, residential or commercial, across the Prairies.

A driveway built to last 20 Prairie winters isn't built from the top down.

By the time the asphalt shows up, the hardest work is already done. Site assessed. Drainage planned. Ground excavated. Base built up in compacted layers that actually carry the weight of your vehicles.

Skip any of that, and freeze-thaw cycles will find the weak spot by year three.

We've laid out the three stages in the order they have to happen, and why each one depends on the one before it. Swipe through and you'll see exactly what should be going on under your driveway before a single load of hot mix gets rolled out.

Mid-June to mid-July. That's the sweet spot.

Across the Prairies, these are the weeks where the ground is dry, daytime temps sit right where asphalt wants them, and the mix has time to compact and cure properly before fall moves in. Pave now and you get a surface that's denser, smoother, and built to handle what Saskatchewan winters throw at it.

Wait until September and the math changes. Cooler nights, surprise rain, and ground that's already losing heat all work against a clean cure. The asphalt still goes down. It just doesn't set up the same way, and you feel it three or four freeze-thaw cycles later.

If a new driveway, parking lot, or repair has been sitting on your list, this is the window we'd point you to. Our summer calendar is filling up week by week, so the sooner we can get out for a quote, the better your chances of landing one of the prime paving slots.

Give us a call or send a message. Thirty years of Prairie paving has taught us when to push and when to wait. Right now, we're telling you to go.

300+ driveways, parking lots, and roads. Every single one still has to perform come spring thaw.

That's how we think about the number. Not as a marketing stat, but as 300+ real properties scattered across the Prairie Provinces, each one going through freeze-thaw cycles, chinooks, and a few months of brutal cold every year.

When you've been paving for 30 years, you learn pretty quickly that a job isn't done when the asphalt cools. It's done when it holds up through the fifth winter, the tenth, the fifteenth. The base layer you can't see matters more than the surface you can.

So when we quote a residential driveway in Regina or a commercial lot out in Moose Jaw, we're not thinking about today. We're thinking about what that surface looks like in 2036, after a decade of Prairie weather has had its way with it.

To the 300+ property owners who've trusted us with that work, thank you. You're the reason we still answer the phone ourselves and still show up on site.

And if you're weighing a paving project this summer, give us a call. We'll tell you straight what your property needs, and what it doesn't.

Concrete costs roughly twice as much upfront. Asphalt needs sealing every few years. Neither answer is wrong.

This is one of the most Googled paving questions in Canada, and we get asked it almost every week. So here's the honest breakdown after 30 Prairie winters.

Asphalt makes sense if you want lower upfront cost, faster installation, and easier repairs. It flexes with our freeze-thaw cycles instead of fighting them, which is why cracks stay manageable and patches blend in.

Concrete makes sense if you want a longer lifespan with minimal maintenance and you're planning to stay in the home for the long haul. The initial bill is higher, but you trade that for decades of set-and-forget.

The right choice really comes down to two questions: what's your budget today, and how long do you plan to be in the house? Answer those honestly and the material usually picks itself.

Still on the fence? Give us a call. We'll walk your driveway, look at your drainage and sun exposure, and tell you straight which one fits your situation, even if it isn't asphalt.
