🌳 Another great year at Fisher Park! 🌳

We joined the Friends of Fisher Park for the 7th Annual Fall Clean-Up & Community Celebration.

Despite the wet weather, the community came together to help care for the park!

Green Drop Tree Care was happy to take part for our 5th consecutive year providing a demonstration on proper tree planting.

A big thank you to the Friends of Fisher Park and everyone who came out to lend a hand and help keep this beautiful park cared for. It’s always great to see the community come together! 🌱

Autumn leaves may be falling, but beneath the surface, your trees are hard at work! 🍂🌳

Did you know tree roots continue growing long after leaves drop? Soil holds onto heat late into autumn, giving your trees a prime window for root establishment before the deep winter freeze locks the ground.

Here is how you can help your trees build a strong foundation before frost sets in: 💧 Deep Fall Watering: Wet soil retains warmth better than dry soil and prevents winter desiccation (especially critical for evergreens!). 🪵 Mulch Smart: A 2–4 inch layer of bark keeps roots insulated and locks in moisture. Just remember the Donut Rule—keep mulch 3 to 4 inches away from the trunk! 🌱 Give Roots Room: Protect young trees from frost heave and winter drought so they hit the ground running come spring.

Want to ensure your trees thrive year-round? Our ISA-Certified Arborists are here to help with targeted autumn root care and deep-root feeding.

Think spring is the only time to plant new trees? Think again! Fall is actually the absolute best season for tree planting, and your local arborists at Green Drop Trees are here to show you why.

While the autumn air cools down, the soil stays warm—creating the ultimate environment for strong, deep root growth before winter sets in. Getting your trees in the ground now gives them a massive head start for a burst of vibrant growth come spring! 🌳✨

Before you grab that shovel, proper prep is the key to long-term success. We’ve put together the ultimate step-by-step guide to help you get your yard fall-planting ready:

📍 Site Selection & Spacing – Giving canopy and root systems room to mature safely away from structures.
🌱 Soil Prep & Drainage Checks – Simple percolation testing and why wide holes matter more than deep ones.
⚡ Utility Locates – Staying safe around underground lines and overhead power cables.
🌳 Stock Selection – How to choose between container, balled-and-burlapped, and bare-root stock.
💧 Post-Planting Care – Proper fall deep-watering routines and avoiding the dreaded "mulch volcano!"

Spring usually gets all the attention for landscaping, but ask any arborist and they’ll tell you the real secret: fall is the absolute best season for planting trees!

Here’s why autumn gives new trees a massive advantage:
🌡️ Cooler air means far less transplant stress and moisture loss
🌱 Soil stays warm longer than the air, encouraging strong root growth
💧 Lower water demand than hot summer planting
❄️ Perfect timing to help trees anchor before winter dormancy

If you’re looking to add shade or privacy to your property, now is the time to get those roots in the ground so they're ready to flourish come spring.

Check out our latest blog post to learn why fall planting works so well in prairie climates and how to get your young trees ready for winter!

Is your property’s favorite shade provider ready to handle the next sudden storm system?

When severe weather rolls across the Prairies, our urban trees take the brunt of the impact. Heavy winds, sudden downpours, and hail can quickly transform hidden structural weaknesses into major hazards. But here is the good news: proactive care can prevent the vast majority of storm damage!

Our latest blog serves as an arborist-backed playbook on Storm Damage Prevention. We share professional insights on how to safeguard your landscape before the clouds roll in, including:

👉 Failure Points: How co-dominant stems, V-shaped unions, and internal rot create dangerous weak spots.
👉 Crown Thinning: Why strategic pruning opens up the canopy, reducing the "sail effect" during high winds.
👉 Cabling & Bracing: How structural support systems save mature trees without requiring removal.
👉 Pre-Season Walkthroughs: Red flags to check for around your yard before storm season peaks.
👉 Post-Storm Protocol: Critical safety steps to take after a storm hits (and why DIY chainsaw work on hanging limbs is a major safety risk!).

Taking a few proactive steps today gives you complete peace of mind when the weather turns. 🍃👇

🌳 What a weekend at the ISA Prairie Chapter Tree Climbing Competition! 🧗‍♂️

A huge thank you to the ISA Prairie Chapter for putting on an incredible weekend at Kildonan Park in Winnipeg. The Tree Climbing Competition is always a great reminder of what makes the arboriculture industry so special—skill, safety, teamwork, and camaraderie.

Green Drop Tree Care was proud to have several of our climbers competing this year, and they all did an amazing job representing Green Drop! 👏🌲

But beyond the competition, it was the people and teamwork that made the weekend so much fun. Our Green Drop crew came together to support each other, cheer each other on, learn from one another, and enjoy a great weekend with fellow arborists from across the Prairies.

We’re proud of our climbers and grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success. Great climbing, great people, and a great weekend in the trees! 🌳💪

🌳 Protecting Wolseley’s historic elms! 🌳

Green Drop Tree Care is proud to be working throughout Wolseley in Winnipeg, injecting 100+ boulevard elm trees along Wolseley Avenue, Westminster Avenue and surrounding streets to help protect them from Dutch Elm Disease (DED).

Many of these trees are over 100 years old and are an important part of what makes Wolseley such a beautiful and historic Winnipeg neighbourhood. ❤️🌳

This project was made possible thanks to the Wolseley Residents Association, who raised funds to help keep these magnificent trees healthy and protected from Dutch Elm Disease.

Our arborists are carefully injecting each tree with a preventative treatment designed to help protect against DED and preserve these trees for generations to come.

A huge thank you to the Wolseley community for investing in its urban forest! 🌳

Is your yard's favorite shade provider a safe asset—or an accident waiting to happen?

When weather conditions take a turn in Western Canada, our trees are put to the ultimate test. While we love our urban canopies for the undeniable curb appeal and shade they bring to our communities, property owners also have a legal and safety responsibility to keep them secure.

Our latest blog serves as the ultimate homeowner's playbook on Tree Risk Assessments. We take you from the canopy to the root plate to break down exactly how professional arborists evaluate tree safety, including:

👉 The TRAQ Standard: What happens during a certified Tree Risk Assessment Qualification evaluation (hint: it’s way more than a quick visual glance!).
👉 The 4 Danger Zones: How to spot common structural defects like deadwood, internal cracks, sudden leans, and hidden root decay.
👉 Location vs. Threat: Why a failing branch becomes an urgent priority when it stands near homes, streets, or sidewalks.
👉 Reducing Your Liability: How a proactive arborist report functions as documented due diligence for insurance and saves you thousands in emergency storm clearing.

Catching a structural issue early doesn't mean a tree automatically has to come down. In fact, proactive mitigation like structural bracing or tactical pruning can preserve your mature trees for decades to come!

Protect your property, your loved ones, and your green investments before the next storm system rolls through. 🍃👇
