Getting the electrical rough-in right before pouring concrete is one of the most critical phases of any commercial buildout.

At a new floral shop project in Blackfalds, our team at LumenTek came in while the floor was still bare gravel to lay out the underground distribution system.

Running PVC conduits beneath the future concrete slab allows us to feed power directly to key locations from the main service panel. By doing this ground work early, we eliminate the need to pipe up along finished drywall or drop cables from the ceiling once the space is built out. That saves our client real money on materials and keeps the finished walls clear for retail displays and shelving.

We also set flush-mount in-floor junction boxes into the gravel layout. Once the concrete contractor finishes the pour, these boxes will sit flush with the floor surface, providing safe plug-in points for island displays without cord clutter.

A commercial property buyer in Red Deer recently took over an older building near Edgar Industrial Park and discovered an electrical room that hadn't been properly serviced in decades. The existing setup featured equipment discontinued back in the 1980s, temporary paper tags left behind from 1992, and zero circuit labels across the shop floor. The setup was such a hazard that the facility's own maintenance electrician declined to work on it.

Our team at LumenTek was brought in to tear it down and rebuild it right.

We spent the first full day ringing out and tracing every conductor through the facility to create an accurate panel schedule. After clearing out the obsolete panels and cutting back dead wiring, we ran EMT conduit into a dedicated overhead junction box. This separates branch splices from the main breaker enclosure, reducing crowding and heat build-up. From there, we landed clean connections into a modern, code-compliant main distribution panel.
