I've noticed a lot of discussion and aurguments on different fencer's pages about techniques. Mainly regarding wire knots, mortised posts and rails and small details in general.
I have made a living building Government spec Highway and Forestry fences. There is no craftsmanship in that world. Build to spec, build as fast as you can, build as much as you can.
I also appreciate the time and craftsmanship and love of the trade that some fence builders put into their work. Take time, do it once, do it right. One hour to drill a good brace post into the ground? Oh well.
I've thought about the arguments people make about wasting time on wire knots and mortised posts.
"Just double wrap" "Its just a fence" "Waste of time" "I could have had a mile of fence up by now"
At the end of the day, a stick frame house with drywall does the same thing as a custom built European style timber home. Gives you a roof over your head.
Do stick framers go over to timber framers business pages and p**p all over their work?
"What a waste of time the dovetail is" "Just use nails" "I could have been to lockup by the time you finish that join"
I have love and respect for the guys and gals who build good ol' barbed wire fences. Who double wrap low carbon barbed wire and nail brace rails in and use twist sticks. I am one of you. But maybe just take a moment before you take a dump on someone else's work that might look like a waste of time to you. You might be a stick framer talking to a timber home builder.
Have a fantastic day all ๐๐คบ๐จ๐ฆ
