The corona virus situation is evolving quickly and it is difficult to figure out what is happening and how it will affect the coming planting season. As the situation unfolds over the next few days and weeks, we will have more clarity on when work will commence and will keep you informed. At this point,we simply donโt know what is going to happen. It is highly likely that the start of the season may be delayed while we see how the pandemic unfolds and figure out how to work safely in this new reality.

While waiting for clarity we are working with our industry and government partners and other silviculture companies in concert with health officials at the highest levels to develop safe procedures and protocols so that our camps will be safe and healthy places to work while we weather the corona virus pandemic. Your health and safety, as always, remains a paramount company value and developing safe practices and procedures is essential if we are going to plant trees this season. It is a daunting task and all of us we are working on it 7-days a week. In the meantime our staff are currently working from home, following social distancing and other safe practices prescribed by health officials. We hope that all of you are also following these directives as well...in fact, getting into the bush may depend on it.

It is essential that you maintain social distancing, limit your exposure to possible sources of infection and stay healthy. If you are travelling outside the country comeback to Canada as soon as possible and self isolate for 14 days. Familiarize yourself with antiseptic procedures and start practising these now. Prepare yourself psychologically for the fact that this is a very serious situation and serious measures need to be taken to get through this. Get ready for possible quarantine. It is most likely that testing kits will not be available and that we will have to observe an industry wide paid 14-day quarantine period here before we can allow anyone into our camps. We can not have anyone unwittingly carry the virus into a camp or into a local community. As policies and procedures are developed around this issue we will advise you on how to prepare. Meanwhile, hunker down, limit exposure to others and follow all health officialsโ directives, do your pre-season planting exercise sand stay healthy.

We must also be prepared for the fact that we may lose all or part of the planting season through a delayed start. The government is preparing an emergency relief fund that will likely be accessible to you even if you do not qualify for EI insurance. If we lose work days we will help you get access to these funds. As the rules become clearer on these new funds over the coming days we will advise you on how to get assistance while we wait for things to get back to normal.

We are still not clear on what will happen with firefighting and flood relief work. One can only assume that this service will be deemed essential if the wildfire season or flood situation is extreme. Type 2 contracts have been awarded and Type 3 tenders have been issued although not yet awarded. At this point we are assuming that Type 2 crews will report for standby for a normal May start-up, although it is not clear how we will be deployed. We will update you here as we know more in the coming days.
Thank you,
