Home/Farm Standby Generators

Standby generators are a staple wherever there are critical systems that rely on a constant supply of electricity. Because people rely on an increasing variety of electric appliances today, standby generators are also becoming more popular with residences. These generators are an important power source in a temporary outage or emergency, and as such, regular maintenance is required.

Breakdowns also happen, and that’s why it’s so important to have a trustworthy electrical contractor who can maintain, repair, and offer advice on the different types of standby generators in Prince George and rural areas.

As a licensed and insured company with extensive experience in all electrical areas, Equity Electric + Controls is one of the region’s most reliable electrical contractors for electrical work and standby generators. Our knowledgeable technicians are skilled in the repair and maintenance of these versatile machines, as well as being able to set them up to the required systems and advise their owners on their operation and upkeep.

Keep your Family Safe and Cool with Our Free Air Conditioning Safety Guide

To keep your air conditioning unit working properly we have some Safety Tips to assist:

- Keep your air filter clean to reduce the strain on the air conditioner motor. This will keep the unit running in tip-top shape. And, it’s a very simple process just like your furnace, it needs tending too.

- Get the proper power supply to your unit. It is important that your unit is running on the proper and adequate power supply. This will help reduce fires and stain on the electrical system of the home.

Air Conditioner Safety Tips and Tricks

- Always avoid using any kind of extension cords to power an air conditioner. These can cause fires and are unreliable and may overheat.

- Get your air conditioning unit inspected both in the Spring and Fall to ensure it’s started up properly and shut down properly for winter. This will help you avoid higher cost repairs later as well.

- Clear the area around your air conditioning unit. This is important as heat can build up and fires break out. It can also cause the unit to fail. Ensure nothing is flammable or combustible near the unit as well.

- You should always have any repair work done by a professional. To avoid serious injury or death, it is very much advised to call the professionals when the unit needs servicing.

- If you have a window unit ensure that it is properly supported. This will ensure the unit won’t fall and injure someone.

Safety Ideas for Air Conditioners

- Do visual inspections to ensure that all the cords and fans are working properly and are not damaged by mice or the elements.

- If you plug the unit in to use, ensure that you have access to the plug to power off if an emergency were to occur. Always ensure lighting is available near your unit for work to be safely conducted.
If it is an in-home unit avoid putting it in places where water could get into it. Also, don’t put plants or other things on top of the unit.

- Keep the unit’s wires away from hot things. Hot surfaces can damage the units.

- If using the AC unit on an Inverter or generator, do keep a close eye on it. This can be very dangerous and should be avoided if possible.

- Any weird sounds, noises or smells are a great sign you need to call a repair technician. The unit should be running at the optimal performance to ensure there aren’t any fires or other issues.

- Use common sense. If you are in doubt, call a professional today.

- Keep a 3 foot space clear of any air conditioning units.

- Air Conditioning vents should be cleaned at least once a fortnight in times of heavy use (such as summer). The extent in which they need to be cleaned depends more upon the frequency of their use more than how many days go by.

We hope this list will help our customers stay healthy and happy in those hot summer days.😊
