Tumbled WallStone from Shaw Brick is a multi-component rough-textured wall system that makes a great first impression. The look is decidedly old-style. The feeling is warmth all around.

The garden blocks in the Tumbled WallStone system incorporate a variety of four different sized blocks that help add interest to garden walls and help it look more like natural stone versus other manufactured wall stone systems where each block is the exact same size. The system also includes a coordinated cap that is sold separately.

Considerations when using natural stone Part 4: Snow Removal

Use of a plastic shovel is the most appropriate way of removing snow from natural stone. Use of a metal shovel can scrape and damage the surface of the stone or leave behind small remnants of steel that could turn rusty. Similarly, use of snow blowers that have a plastic shoe instead of a metal shoe is recommended.

The use of salt is not recommended as it has various disadvantages. Firstly, salt can cause discolouration as it acts as a bleach. This can result in coloured spots throughout the surface of the stone. Secondly, salt when mixed with melted snow and ice creates a brine that may permeate the stone and joints and slowly corrode these materials.

The safest method to ensure safety without adversely affecting the stone is to first remove as much snow as possible with a plastic shovel, then use either untreated sand or kitty litter. This will provide grip during the winter months and in the spring, a nice soil amendment when swept into the garden.
