Ever wonder what the guy who skipped proper roof flashing 15-ish years ago is doing right now?

This roof had been leaking since install, but the homeowner only just noticed the water now. That’s the scary part with roof leaks — by the time you see it inside, it may have already been soaking insulation, drywall, framing, or causing mold issues for a long time.

Once we opened it up, the problem was pretty obvious: missing step flashing along the wall. Basically, water had a nice little path straight in.

To make it better, this was old roof boards with no underlayment underneath. So once water got past the shingles, there wasn’t much stopping it from finding its way through the gaps.

We pulled the failed area apart, added ice and water protection, installed proper step flashing, and shingled it back in the way it should’ve been done the first time.

Crazy what some people will sell as a roof.

Saving money on the roof can get expensive real quick when you end up paying the drywall guy, the painter, and the carpenter later.
