☀️ ☀️ SUMMER IS HERE, BUT IS YOUR SEPTIC READY? ☀️
It’s officially June, which means backyard BBQs, pool parties, and extra guests are on the horizon. But more people at your house means your septic system is about to work overtime!
Before you fire up the grill, take a second to think about what’s happening underground. The last thing you want ruining your summer vibes is a backup. 🛑💩
📋 Your Summer Septic Checklist:
Schedule a Pump/Inspection: If it’s been 3 to 4 years, it’s time. Beat the summer heat (and the smells) by getting it checked now.

Space Out the Laundry: Spreading out your loads gives your tank time to process water, preventing it from getting overwhelmed during heavy summer use.

Watch the Landscaping: Keep heavy vehicles, pools, and tents off your drainfield to avoid crushing your pipes.

Think Before You Flush: Remind summer guests that only toilet paper and human waste go down the loo. (Yes, even those "flushable" wipes are a no-go!)
Don't wait for a warning sign to call us. A little maintenance now saves a ton of stress later! 🛠️

COTTAGE SEASON IS FINALLY HERE!
Before you dust off the Adirondack chairs, fire up the BBQ, and jump in the lake, there’s one VIP ~Very Important Pump~ that needs your attention: your septic system.
Nothing ruins a perfect weekend at the lake faster than a plumbing disaster. Since your cottage tank has been sitting lonely all winter, throwing a sudden "welcome party" for 10 people can completely overwhelm it.
Here is your quick Cottage Opener Septic Checklist to keep the good times flowing

📋 The Quick 4-Step Check: ✔️

1. Do a Walkabout: Check the drainfield area. Is there pooling water, soggy grass, or a strange smell? If yes, call us at 613-243-1441 before the guests arrive.

2. Wake it up gently: Don't shock the system by running the dishwasher, washing machine, and three showers all in the first hour. Pace out your water use.

3. Review the "Do Not Flush" list: Remind your guests that the only things going down the toilet are human waste and toilet paper. No wipes even "flushable" ones, no paper towels, and no feminine hygiene products.

4. Watch the grease: Keep fats, oils, and harsh chemical cleaners out of the sink. They destroy the good bacteria your tank needs to break down waste.

💡 Pro-Tip: If it’s been 3 years since your last pump-out, schedule one now! Call us at 613-243-1441 It’s way cheaper than replacing a failed field.

🌱 Spring is Blooming... and Your Septic Needs Grooming! 🚽

The flowers are poking through, the ground is finally thawing, and your backyard is waking up. But before you get too deep into your garden beds, let's talk about the most important "underground" part of your home: your septic system.

Spring is the absolute best time for a check-up to ensure everything is flowing smoothly before the high-use summer months hit. ☀️

Your Spring Maintenance Checklist:

Inspect the Drainfield: Look for extra-lush grass or soggy patches—this could mean your system is working overtime or failing.

Check the Risers: Ensure your lids are secure and haven't been damaged by snow or ice.

Clear the Area: Move heavy planters or lawn ornaments off the tank and drainfield to prevent soil compaction.

Schedule a Pump: If it’s been 3–5 years, it’s time! Don't wait for a backup to call the pros 613-243-1441

Watch What You Flush: Spring cleaning? Remember: no "flushable" wipes, grease, or harsh chemicals down the drain!

Don't let a septic backup ruin your garden party. Give your system some love now so you can enjoy the season worry-free! 🌷✨

Happy Earth Day! 🌎✨

While most people are out planting trees or picking up litter today, we’re celebrating our planet in a slightly... different way. 💩

Did you know that one of the best things you can do for your local ecosystem is pump your septic tank?

Why It’s a Win for Mother Earth:

Protecting Groundwater: A well-maintained system prevents untreated waste from seeping into the water table.

Saving the Local Flora & Fauna: It keeps excess nutrients and harmful bacteria out of our nearby streams, lakes, and oceans.

Regular maintenance avoids costly and messy soil contamination in your own backyard.

Being a good neighbor to the environment starts right under your feet. If it’s been 3 to 5 years since your last pump, consider this your sign from the universe—and the Earth—to give us a call! 📞 613-243-1441

Weather watch for heavy rainfall tonight and tomorrow
⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️⛈️
Heavy rainfall can put a massive strain on your home’s plumbing and drainage systems. When you have both a septic system and a sump pump, you’re essentially managing two different water "exits" that can easily become overwhelmed.

Here is some tips on how to protect your home and hardware during a a heavy rainfall.During heavy rain, the ground (drainfield) becomes saturated. If you continue to send water down your drains, the septic tank can’t push liquid out into the soaked earth, which causes sewage to back up into your house.
• Reduce Water Usage: This is the golden rule. Avoid running the dishwasher, doing laundry, or taking long showers until the rain stops and the ground dries out.
• Avoid "Shocking" the System: Do not use heavy cleaners or bleach during this time, as the bacteria in your tank are already stressed by the excess water.
• Don't Drive Near the Drainfield: Saturated soil is easily compacted. Driving a car or even a riding mower over your septic area during a storm can crush the pipes or compact the soil, ruining your system's ability to drain

Keep an eye on your sump pump during a heavy rainfall, your sump pump is the frontline defense against a flooded basement. If it fails during a storm, you’ll know it quickly.
• Check the Discharge Point: Ensure the water being pumped out is directed at least 10–20 feet away from your foundation. If the water pools right next to the wall, it will just cycle back down into your pit.
• Clear the Basin: Make sure no debris (or the pump’s own power cord) is interfering with the "float switch"—the buoy that tells the pump when to turn on.
• Listen for Cycles: A pump that runs constantly is fine, but one that makes strange grinding noises or vibrates excessively might be failing.
• Don't Route Sump Water into the Septic: This is a common but major mistake. Never pipe your sump pump discharge into your floor drain or septic line. It will flood your septic tank in minutes.

It’s tempting to plow all that extra snow into one big mountain in the corner of the yard, but where you pile it matters more than you think.
If you have a septic system, keep the heavy snow piles away from your septic lids and your drain field
Here’s why:
Soil Compaction: The sheer weight of a massive snow pile especially when it's wet and heavy can compact the soil. This prevents the ground from "breathing" and processing effluent correctly.
Frozen Pipes: Believe it or not, a normal layer of "fluffy" snow actually acts as insulation. But when you pack it down or pile it high with a plow, you lose that R-value, which can lead to frozen pipes or a frozen system.
The Big Melt: When that giant mountain finally melts, it dumps a concentrated amount of water right onto your drain field, potentially flooding the system and causing backups. 🤢
Structural Damage: Heavy equipment like plows or trucks driving over the lids can crack the tank or crush the pipes underneath.
Pro-Tip: Mark your lids and the edges of your drain field with tall stakes before the next big storm so you or your plow driver know exactly where to avoid.
Stay warm, stay dry, and keep that septic happy! 🏠✨

Stop the Snow Pile-Up! Protect Your Septic System ❄️
Hey homeowners! While those massive snow piles look great when you're shoveling, there's one place you should never put them: on top of your septic system or drain field! It might seem harmless, but piling heavy snow or snow plowed from the driveway/yard onto your septic area can lead to serious and costly! problems.

🤔 Why is this a problem?

Compaction & Damage: The sheer weight of a large snow pile can compact the soil, making it harder for the drain field to function. In extreme cases, it could even damage pipes or the tank itself.

Delayed Thaw = Delayed Treatment: Snow acts as a great insulator. A thick, compacted layer means the ground underneath stays frozen longer in the spring. If your drain field stays frozen, the wastewater treatment process is significantly slowed down or even stopped.
