For some families, attending a hockey game with teens who find the regular noise environment too loud, busy or overwhelming isn't a possibility. So when Amanda Locke and Rob Zoppi approached us and asked if we could sponsor the first Sensory Sensitive Suite at a Vees game, we were honoured 💙
It’s a quieter (noice cancelling headphones also provided), lower-stimulation space for teenagers on the spectrum and their families to enjoy the games in a way that works for them.
The Sensory Sensitive Suite is being created through a partnership with the City of Penticton and the Vees Foundation, with volunteers who have backgrounds in OT, SLP, special education and related areas there to help support the teens and their families throughout the game.
For some families, having a space like this can make the difference between being able to attend a hockey game together and not being able to attend at all. We’re really proud to help make that experience a little more accessible and comfortable for local families.
