Addendum to miMO
Minimum Input, Maximum Output
miMO has been an integral part of FIVE, allowing a user to link a custom abbreviation in a log to a user-defined sentence in the body text of a form. For example, typing "M" in the Discipline column of the log can prompt the form to display: “Action – is directed to the Mechanical Consultant.” This approach captures the What, Where, Why, When, and Who for every issue, creating a searchable data spine for the project from start to finish.
Data collection and retrieval often fail because they are treated as separate tasks, often performed by different staff, which impacts both the Change and Field Review processes. FIVE recognized early on that descriptions in either process must include the 5Ws at a minimum.
Most Change forms have body text headings such as Title, Reference, Location, Due By, Reason, Action By, Attachments, and Distribution. Each of these headings can be autopopulated from existing data, while users can still append or modify the text as needed.
Field Reviews are often structured as embedded lists within a form. When typed directly into the form, these lists make the data difficult to search, sort, or constrain, making analysis slow or even impossible. miMO keeps all review items separate from the form, ensuring that every item is independently stored and readily available for searching, sorting, and constraining as needed.
