🌱 DID YOU KNOW? (Spring Lawn Tip #4)

How often you mow your lawn can have a bigger impact than you might think.

Waiting too long between cuts means you’re removing too much grass at once, which can stress the lawn and leave it looking brown or uneven.

A good rule of thumb is to never remove more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mowing.

Even better? Mulch those clippings right back into the lawn 👇

✔️ Returns valuable nutrients to the soil
✔️ Helps retain moisture during dry periods
✔️ Reduces the need for bagging and disposal
✔️ Encourages healthier, greener growth
✔️ Adds organic matter back into the turf

Those tiny grass clippings break down quickly and act like a natural fertilizer for your lawn.

So the next time you mow, consider leaving the bagger off. Your lawn might thank you for it.

🌱 DID YOU KNOW? (Spring Lawn Tip #3)

If water puddles on your lawn or the ground feels hard underfoot… your soil may be compacted.

Over time, foot traffic, snow buildup, and our heavy seasonal conditions can pack the soil down so tightly that your lawn struggles to breathe.

That’s where core aeration comes in 👇

Core aeration removes small plugs of soil to help:

✔️ Loosen compacted ground
✔️ Improve airflow to roots
✔️ Allow water & nutrients to soak in properly
✔️ Encourage deeper root growth
✔️ Promote a thicker, healthier lawn

And those little soil plugs left behind? They naturally break down over time, returning nutrients and organic material back into the lawn.

So while they may look messy at first, they’re actually helping improve your soil health 👀

🌱 DID YOU KNOW? (Spring Lawn Tip #2)

Early spring is one of the best times to apply lime to your lawn.

Around Newfoundland, many lawns naturally have acidic soil due to our climate and soil conditions. When your soil becomes too acidic, your grass struggles to properly absorb nutrients — even if you’re fertilizing regularly.

That’s where lime comes in 👇

✔️ Helps balance soil pH
✔️ Improves nutrient absorption
✔️ Boosts fertilizer effectiveness
✔️ Encourages thicker, healthier grass
✔️ Helps your lawn green up stronger in spring

Think of it this way:
Fertilizer feeds your lawn… but lime helps your lawn actually USE that food properly.

A lot of homeowners skip this step, but it can make a huge difference over the course of the season.

🌱 DID YOU KNOW? (Spring Lawn Tip #1)

Leaving piles of snow sitting on your lawn too long in spring can actually cause more problems than you think.

As that snow slowly melts, it creates the perfect environment for:

❌ Snow mould & lawn disease
❌ Dead, matted grass
❌ Delayed green-up
❌ Moist, shaded spots that attract pests like earwigs and other insects

By clearing off heavy snow piles—especially along driveways and walkways—you help your lawn:

✔️ Dry out faster
✔️ Warm up sooner
✔️ Green up earlier
✔️ Stay less inviting to unwanted pests

Simple step… big difference heading into the season.
