March Spotlight | Environmental Stewardship

What was once an eroding shoreline held together by old railway ties has been transformed into something far more meaningful—a naturalized, resilient waterfront designed to improve both the land and the lake.

This project is a strong reflection of environmental stewardship in action. Our team removed contaminated materials and rebuilt the shoreline using natural granite rockery, improved drainage systems, and native plantings. The result is a healthier shoreline that will continue to strengthen over time—supporting water quality, reducing erosion, and creating a more natural connection to the landscape.

Crew Leader Scott played a key role in bringing this vision to life. Working through challenging soft shoreline conditions, he and the team carefully navigated access using mats to minimize impact and ensure the site was restored with care. For Scott, the most rewarding part was seeing the transformation—from outdated materials to a shoreline that feels like it truly belongs.

“It’s about getting back in touch with nature—creating something that looks better, functions better, and is better for the environment.”

The design also introduced flagstone access, refined planting areas, and drainage solutions that turned previously unusable wet space into functional landscape—all while seamlessly tying together two neighbouring properties into one cohesive waterfront.

January Spotlight – Snow & Winter Operations
Jordan Lengyell

Being on the snow removal team at Hutten is not for the faint of heart.

In Jordan's first year on the hand clearing crew, the work was tougher than expected. Heavy snowfall resulted in long, exhausting shifts through the night in freezing temperatures, and unpredictable schedules. It wasn't long into the grueling snow season before Jordan realized that winter work on the snow team is a different level of commitment.

But what pushed him through wasn’t just grit — it was the energy that we call "passionate teams"

Working closely with his teammates made all the difference. Showing up early, being aligned in work ethic, staying positive in tough conditions — those partnerships changed the dynamic. In that culture — even the hardest shifts become manageable.

Jordan says he’s most proud of how the team improved as the season went on, focus improved, morale grew, and operations became well oiled.

Snow work isn’t something you do alone. You rely on each other — mentally and physically. And Jordan brought both effort and positivity to every shift.

As the monthly spotlight recipient, Jordan is choosing to direct the associated company community support toward Alzheimer's research and support.

Jordan, thank you for your resilience, leadership, and heart this season. You're one of the reasons we call members of the snow team "Hutten Heros"!
