McDonald Brothers Construction - established in 1988 - is a General Contractor based in the Ottawa area which services primarily the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) sectors. What started out as two brothers with a passion for building has quickly grown into an established construction firm servicing the Ottawa region. We are best known for our extensive work with medical facilities

, school additions, recreational facilities and complex renovations. If your children attend an elementary school in the Ottawa region built within the last 5 years, there is a good chance we had a hand in putting it there. More recently, as our operations continue to diversify, our experience in large-scale new construction has been increasing significantly. Our guiding principle is that most effective way to grow our business is to secure lasting relationships with our clients, and build each project with a mind to returning for the next phase or addition. Our Philosophy:
We believe above all else that passion for building is transcendent. Technical knowledge can be developed with experience, but creative ability is contingent on having sincere enthusiasm for each and every project. While we place strong emphasis on superior quality, attentive service, competitive cost and aggressive scheduling, our key to success is in creative problem solving and ingenuity. A major milestone has been reached at Bell Hall. Demolition is now complete, and all existing windows have been removed.

Designed by CSV Architects for the Municipality of North Grenville, this project is already offering a glimpse of what future residents will enjoy. With the exterior opened up, it's easy to appreciate the views from inside the building. The photos speak for themselves.

Progress continues on the structural work. With micropile installation completed, the team has started interior formwork and reinforcing steel installation, bringing the project one step closer to the next phase of interior fit-ups.

A lot of work has gone into getting the project to this stage, and it's exciting to see it continue to take shape.

Building a recreation facility means planning for more than today's needs. The spaces created today will support community activities for decades to come.

Designed by IDEA Inc., the La Nation Sports Complex was created as a multi-generational facility where residents of all ages can gather, stay active, and connect with their community.

The completed complex includes indoor soccer fields, a walking track, and community spaces that support a wide range of sports, recreation, and local events. The result is a facility designed to serve the growing needs of the community while bringing people together through activity, wellness, and recreation.

Projects like this leave a lasting impact, and we are proud to have been part of it.

Built in 1887, Pope House has witnessed generations of Ottawa's history. Today, it's being carefully renovated and expanded to support the next chapter of its story.

The National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) project involves the renovation and expansion of Pope House, a heritage property originally built in downtown Ottawa. Working alongside Two Row Architect, MBC is helping modernize the building through extensive interior and exterior renovations, accessibility improvements, and a new rear addition.

Projects like this require thoughtful coordination. Every decision must balance the needs of a modern facility with the responsibility of preserving the character and significance of a historic building.

Safety is one of MBC's core values, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun.

The team spent the day at Greensmere Golf & Country Club for our annual summer safety meeting. The morning was dedicated to reviewing our safety performance, discussing ways to continue improving, and identifying opportunities to help us deliver the best possible results for our clients.

After lunch, it was time to hit the golf course. While we're confident in our construction abilities, let's just say some of us have a little more room for improvement when it comes to our golf game. ⛳

A great day of learning, teamwork, and a few laughs along the way.

Affordable housing and building performance are often discussed separately, but this project demonstrates how they can work together.

Designed by Figurr collectif d'architectes, CCOC - Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corporation's 159 Forward Ave. was built to the Passive House standard and includes several features aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving occupant comfort, including rooftop solar panels, a high-performance building envelope, triple-glazed windows, and energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems.

This four-storey building provides 49 affordable housing units while delivering long-term benefits through reduced energy use and improved building performance.

Projects like this show how sustainable building strategies can contribute to both environmental goals and a better living experience for residents.

Completed between November 2020 and August 2021, this project was delivered during one of the most challenging periods the construction industry had faced in recent years.

Designed by CSV Architects, the station was built using a pre-engineered, frameless Honco structure manufactured in Quebec and assembled on site. The system provided the large clear spans required for a vehicle maintenance facility while also helping streamline the construction process.

During a time marked by COVID-related restrictions, supply chain uncertainties, and labour challenges, construction efficiency was more important than ever. The use of a prefabricated structural system helped keep the project moving forward and contributed to the successful delivery of this important facility for Kingston Fire and Rescue.

We're proud to have been part of a project that continues to support first responders and the community they serve.

The Carleton U: ARISE Building is a great example of the coordination required to deliver complex projects.

Designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects, this renovation transformed an existing 2-storey building into a 6-storey research facility on Carleton University's campus.

With construction taking place throughout the academic year, careful planning and a phased approach were essential to minimize disruptions to students, faculty, and campus operations.
