October is Renovation Month!

The best renovations start with a conversation: understanding how you cook, how you host, where the day begins, and where it winds down.

We wanted to share one of our favourite before-and-afters to show what intentional design and craftsmanship can do for a home.

Clear sightlines to the backyard shaped every decision in this kitchen. We relocated the cooktop beneath a larger window and concealed the ventilation. The downdraft rises at the push of a button, then disappears. Warm oak and cloud-white cabinetry, fluted glass pocket doors, and little pops of black make the whole main floor feel like one story.

Upstairs, the kids got a space of their own: bedrooms, a bathroom, and a hangout zone, all built over the garage. And from the street? You'd never guess it wasn't always there.

Among the Trees is having quite the awards season, with three finalist nominations across two programs:

* Home Renovation $250,001–$500,000 | OHBA Awards of Distinction
* Renovation $200,001–$400,000 | GOHBA Housing Design Awards
* Custom Kitchen 251 sq. ft.+, Traditional ($150,000 or less) | GOHBA Housing Design Awards

This main floor renovation and addition reworked the kitchen, dining, and living room into one connected space, with windows on nearly every wall pulling the surrounding tree canopy right into the room. Sage green cabinetry lines the perimeter, a warmer cherry tone wraps the island, and the whole space was designed for a family of four (plus pets) who needed room for two people cooking at once, kids doing homework nearby, and everyone gathering in the same spot at the end of the day.
