This year marked the completion of another key phase in the multi-year renovation of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Headquarters.

Our work on the fourth floor of 774 Echo and the third floor of the Annex building reflects a continued commitment to blending heritage sensitivity with modern workplace design. Staying true to the design philosophy established in earlier phases, we continued to navigate the challenges of the heritage structure while integrating modern planning approaches, contemporary materials, and updated technology to create a supportive and future-focused workplace.

We’re proud to be working with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada on their first centralized Assessment Centre, currently under construction at 160 Elgin Street in downtown Ottawa.

This 60,000 square foot facility is designed to support in-person applied exams for medical certification across Canada, with a focus on long-term functionality and an optimized experience for candidates, examiners, and staff.

Renderings offer a glimpse into this highly specialized space, carefully shaped through a detailed programming phase and designed to meet the needs of a rarely built typology. Completion is expected in late 2026.

Our first collaboration with Nautical Lands Group continues to take shape with significant construction progress at Wellings of Stittsville. Located along Hazeldean Road, this multi-phase seniors’ living community includes two six-storey buildings with 344 luxury apartments and 364 parking spaces.

The design prioritizes comfort, accessibility, and a strong connection to nature, with suites oriented toward a central outdoor amenity space and Poole Creek’s walking trails.

We look forward to seeing this vibrant community come to life!

We’re excited to break ground at 797 Richmond Road, a 9-storey mixed-use development that will bring 71 modern apartment units with a rooftop amenity space, a two-level underground parking garage, and enhanced accessibility to Ottawa’s west end.

Located directly across from the future Westboro LRT station, the project is designed to connect residents to the heart of the city with ease and convenience.

We were proud to take part in this year’s Fore-Play for Charity Golf Tournament, hosted by TRUEdotDESIGN. The day brought together professionals from across the industry for meaningful connection, a bit of friendly competition, and support for a great cause!

Chmiel Architects is proud to have reimagined LaFramboise Hall as the new home for Collège Boréal’s Ottawa Campus. This 12,500 sq. ft. adaptive reuse project preserves the building’s architectural character while integrating the essential elements of a modern learning environment.

Historic details such as terrazzo floors, tall windows, and high ceilings remain prominent, now complemented by upgraded mechanical systems, improved lighting, and new power infrastructure. Inside, students and staff benefit from a thoughtfully designed mix of science labs, classrooms, offices, and shared spaces like a welcoming student lounge.

The result is a learning space that honours the building’s past while supporting the future of post-secondary education in Ottawa.

At the heart of our adaptive reuse project at 331 Cooper is a reimagined lobby that sets the tone for modern urban living.

Previously a vacant office building, this downtown Ottawa property has been reimagined as a modern eight-storey residential space.

With clean lines, natural light, and warm materials, the redesigned lobby welcomes residents and guests into a thoughtfully revitalized environment, starting right at the front door.
