JoT Architecture

JoT Architecture Design that Fits At JoT Architecture, “Design that Fits” is a philosophy that shapes everything we do.

For us, great architecture isn’t just about how a space looks — it’s about how it feels, how it functions, and how it supports the people
who use it. Every project we design is a reflection of what fits best for you and your unique needs.

We were thrilled to celebrate with Nepean Housing Corporation the Grand Opening of 20 Dunbar this week!

Completed in 2025, this new net-zero ready, affordable rent apartment building is now home to 31 individuals and families. It was particularly moving to hear from residents about the features they love most about their new homes.

Several local, provincial, and federal representatives joined the event and ribbon cutting ceremony and expressed how this project is an outstanding example for future affordable housing projects.

We are proud to be part of the team who helped bring this vision to life ❤️🏡

This week we had the pleasure of participating in a Visioning Session with Total Communication Environment (TCE). TCE is a local not-for-profit that provides support for individuals with developmental disabilities and unique communication needs. We are lucky to be working with them on a few of their upcoming projects which include renovations and additions to existing buildings to increase accessibility, function and occupancy, as well as designing a brand-new, purpose-built home.

The Visioning Session was a collaborative afternoon that brought together residents, family members, support staff, board members and a Ministry of Housing representative to discuss the vision and preliminary plans for each of the projects. The conversations and feedback were very informative and will help improve the designs and process. It was a perfect example of collaborative planning and exactly how we love working with clients to achieve the best outcomes.

Today is Earth Day! 🌍

We love to design buildings with measures to mitigate climate change and environmental impact at the forefront. Whether it's new construction or energy retrofits to an existing building, we look to incorporate solutions for reducing emissions and lowering operational costs.

These new affordable housing apartments are a great example where solar awnings were installed to generate electricity as well as provide summer shading to the living spaces. The building's all-electric heating and cooling systems were designed with a low carbon footprint in mind. And thanks to the thick insulation wrapping the exterior of the building, the mechanical systems run efficiently, with increased comfort for residents. Win-win!

Take a moment to reflect on how you are helping the earth and perhaps set a new goal for this year - set your thermastat 1 degree lower in the winter and higher in the summer months, air seal around your doors and windows, set up a rain barrel to collect water for your garden, or start saving for bigger projects like topping up your attic insulation, replacing leaky windows and doors, converting your house to all electric and adding solar panels.....

We'd love to hear your ideas for celebrating Earth Day!

Today is the final day in the appeal period for the new City of Ottawa Zoning By-law 2026-50 approval.

The City of Ottawa has been hard at work over the past few years updating the Zoning By-law to reflect the need for increased housing, active transportation and affordability. We have been following the process throughout to understand the changes and to inform and advocate for our clients. The final draft by-law was approved in March by council, and is now in the appeal period before replacing the current zoning by-law. Today is the last day to submit an appeal. All parts of the new by-law that are not appealed are scheduled to be in effect by September.

This new zoning by-law affects your property, your neighborhood, future developments, and impacts things like:

- Types of housing allowed
- Building height and density
- Parking requirements
- Land use in your community
