I ❤️ it when the shop smells of fresh sawn Eastern White Pine. Unfortunately I only get to enjoy the aroma every now and then, I've just been so accustomed to it over the years that I don't realize it as much. 🫤

This will be a Mortice Pocket for a knee brace.

I use traditional Mortice and Tenon Joinery, typically with Eastern White Line, Douglas Fir upon request. I also have a supply of Reclaimed Timbers from Barns.

Currently I'm booked up for the fall and winter, looking forward to discussing any of your projects for spring 2027.

How do you raise a 20' wide Douglas Fir Truss by yourself? Very carefully! 😜

What I'm using is called a material lift. It has a mast that can go up to 18' in the air, and you raise things with a hand operated crank.

Not sure exactly how much each truss weighs, but fortunately this man was able to tip them up as well by myself! 😉

Walls are now up and temporarily braced for the main section of the hall. I just have to finish test fitting the Trusses that I was working on in the shop over the winter and spring. They should be going up next week if all goes well.

Been awhile since I gave an update on what I've been up to. Lately it seems that I keep jumping from one small project to the next one. So it's finally nice to be working on a major project.

This has to be the biggest one I've done yet. Recall my previous posts in the wintertime where I was hand-plaining reclaimed Douglas Fir? Well work has finally started on the structure, and it's going to be a beauty!
