Want to see a magic trick? 🪄 Take a look at this before and after!
This basement stair originally had painted pine stringers with the knots bleeding through, plus improperly installed laminate flooring on the treads. We see this kind of standard stair capping all the time, and sometimes it’s hard to explain the difference between that and a true custom recap. These pictures speak for themselves!
To get this dramatic, super-clean look, we completely upgrade the process:
We skin the stringers and risers with Canadian maple plywood to create the perfect canvas.
Instead of standard paint, we opt for a sprayed white lacquer because it's significantly harder, UV-resistant, and has a flawlessly smooth finish.
We only use solid hardwood treads (never pieces of flooring). This ensures the steps are smooth, completely safe, and will never peel off.
Because we use solid materials, we don't need to hide edges with extra trim or raised lips. Just pure, clean lines. We even tackled the baseboards for the client on this one!
