WHAT IS A HYBRID IMPREGNATING DENSIFYING SEALER AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
A hybrid densifying impregnating sealer is typically used to densify, harden and prevent water and water-soluble damaging substances from penetrating concrete and mineral substrates. Once impregnated, the reaction process from the active silicate ingredient produces additional C-S-H (Calcium Silicate Hydroxide) within the capillary tracts, therefore increasing the density and volumetric mass. The change of the surface tension elicited from the silicon ate component forms a repellent cross- linking membrane that is hydrophobic. This membrane is able to repel water and water-soluble deleterious materials such as salts, chlorides and sulfates.
NANOTECHNOLOGY
TECHNOLOGY: Siliconates are a moderate-size molecular compound. Chemically, siliconates form a repellent cross-linking membrane barrier within the surface of porous concrete and other masonry components. Siliconates are known to be hydrophobic and develop their water repellent properties by reaction with atmospheric carbon dioxide (C02). The active substance formed from the silicone is a polymethylsilicic acid and will only wear away if the concrete surface itself wears away.
In structures on and below grade, water should generally be kept out and away to prevent deterioration and damage; with subsequent loss of value and/or function. Research from major concrete authorities including Portland Cement Association and National Ready Mix Concrete Association confirm that most concrete damage is from surface moisture intrusion. The most pervasive form of concrete damage is surface scaling from freeze/thaw. Other forms of damage include chemical intrusion, and corrosion of steel reinforcements. On masonry components such as brick or manmade stone, corrosion of concrete itself eats away at the compressed sand material and/or brick over time from moisture and efflorescence. Example- first couple of courses of brick that has been laid into the foundation of a home or building.

The chemical reaction and active ingredient seals the pores within the substrate, blocking surface moisture while still maintaining the concretes ability to breath. It will not significantly modify substrate appearance or traction and will only wear away if the concrete surface brakes down. The secondary siliconate component forms a repellent cross-linking membrane barrier within the surface of the concrete providing a hydrophobic surface environment. It has also been shown to be affective as a curing agent for new concrete.
