Full chimney rebuilt from the flashing. The bricks were spalling and breaking apart from a cap failure ❌. To ensure this does not happen again, we install a masonry stone cap with a drip edge and a minimum of 2 inches of clearance between the brick and the edge of the cap. This will allow any water hitting the cap to drip straight down instead of flowing down the chimney ✅.

Sill replacement of an old brick sill that was covered by stucco. The bricks and stucco were deteriorating and needed to be restored. The window was replaced with a concrete sill and stucco'd over to closely match the existent texture around the window.

Our goal is to match, as closely as possible , the new restorations to the existing envelope and aesthetic of the building, but with the construction standards of today.

This endeavour is made possible by the 2-foot scaffold set up between the houses' alley providing our masons ample room to work with. Hydro lines were shut off for less than 2 days to allow the masons to work safely.

Installing new custom concrete sills for this beautiful old house.

A waterproof membrane is inserted behind the sill to prevent water infiltration as per Ontario Building Code. The sills are also equipped with a drip edge to protect the brick below the windowsill. A drip edge is a horizontal groove situated below the window sill, 1inch away from the face of the brick. This shed any precipitation away from wall . Preventing moisture seeping in the brick and mortar .This also prevents efflorescence a (white salts substance) to build on the face of the brick.
Window sill are not part of the window but are part of the wall unit.

Replacing spalling bricks along and above the solider course. Spalling bricks happens when a brick filled with water freezes in the winter which causes the brick to "explode" from within. Water expands when frozen, which "pops out" the bricks' faces.

Keep an eye for those as they may be signs of a larger root issue with water drainage.

This is usually the result of water damage from a wrongly installed eavesdrop or poorly graded terrain.
